Virgin burner, starting preparations for 2013
Hello everyone '=)
My name is Bernardo, I'm a photographer and film production student. I'm from Brazil but am temporarily living in Toronto, Canada. I love to read, play instruments, watch movies and sometimes photograph '=P
I've been wanting to participate in Burning Man for several years, but haven't had the chance yet because of money and the distance to my home. Now that I'm in Canada (only until the end of July), I think it's a great opportunity to finally go to Black Rock City! I'm still seeing if it's possible - I would need to figure out what to do in August, where to stay and all. My biggest concern right now is how to get to the desert with enough food, water, a shelter and sleeping bag considering I don't drive and don't live anywhere near here.
I hope that, little by little, I'll be able to figure out a solution ;-)
Big hugs

Hey Bernardo! Welcome to the board.
You're probably a good candidate for the "Green Tortoise" hostel in San Francisco. Google 'em. Maybe you could spend your August there while you shop and get ready. They drive buses out to the Burn and provide a few of the basics (shade, water, food). Nothing fancy; you'd still need to buy a tent and stuff.
Or stay somewhere else and fly into Reno at some point, rent a truck, drive out . . . you don't necessarily need a camp, you know.

Best of luck to you. Plenty of information here, and we're usually nice about questions if you look like you tried to find the answer first.

Hi Savannah
Thanks for your help! So many options, right? I'll look into everything.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hello and welcome to ePlaya! The boards should be helpful, but don't forget the first timer's guide and survival guide, both are essential reading.

Try connecting with locals in Toronto at: [email protected] in any other large metropolitan area you visit.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Hey! Welcome!
If you are interested, the Toronto Decompression is happening next weekend
There is also a casual Burner Drinks Night every other Thursday that is a great way to meet the locals
cheers,
Meg

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the warm welcome '=)
I'm looking into all the possibilities and it's driving me crazy '=P Green Tortoise excursion, joining a camp, finding people to maybe share a ride in Toronto or San Francisco... I don't even know if I'll stay in Toronto after my internship ends in July. But that burners encounter on the weekend, that sure sounds like a good idea
But yeah, there's so much information flying in all directions! '=P

Re: Virgin burner, starting preparations for 2013
There have been years when I had a Burn Plan A, a Plan B, a Plan C, and a Plan D in a word document. It's not as chaotic as it sounds--it really helps you organize your thoughts, and eventually one of the plans will start making more sense than the others.bad-and-ugly wrote:Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the warm welcome '=)

Re: Virgin burner, starting preparations for 2013
This is wonderful, things have changed a little so now I really can start making some plans! I'll actually be living in Toronto in August, so I can go with a group from here, or go to San FRancisco before for a few days and go with a group from there. I'm thining where I can leave my luggage while I'm there, 'cause after Burning Man I'll just go back to Brazil '=P
