Virgin Burner out in Tampa, Florida
Hey Everyone!
My name is Chris, and I've recently finally made the decision to finally attend Burning Man this year. Though I have no idea how I plan to get there yet or who I plan to go with since I couldn't convince any of my friends to participate in this adventure with me, but I know I will figure it out. I hear the first time out on the playa can be tough, but as long as I leave with an experience and a story to tell, it will be more than worth it to me. I'm not the artsiest guy, nor the craziest, but this is a chance to step out of my comfort zone and really experience life in a new way.

Haha not really (or perhaps not yet?), it's a nickname I've attained in college since I used to regularly go to class in just a swimsuit...at least until the teachers started getting pissed.

Hahaha! Great nickname. Better than just NakedChris. (Borrrrring).
If most of us had waited for our friends to go, we'd never have gone at all.
You will definitely have 1) an experience, and 2) a story to tell. Great attitude.

University of San Francisco? I've just been so disappointed in them, since they renounced their Jesuit roots and that "666" telephone prefix...

Fishy.... South Florida. CA loves them some Jesuit schools. I live by one, I want to investigate their kind.

TomServo... Please tell me more about this teleportation, I'd love to see if they offer a payment plan for services.

Re: Virgin Burner out in Tampa, Florida
Is it a bad idea to go alone, seeing as I know no one going and it seems almost easier to just load up my car and go (also would my camaro just get destroyed if i took it to the playa?)
Re: Virgin Burner out in Tampa, Florida
Welcome to eplaya!
If you have the means and the inner drive to do it...pack up your car and go!
As I'm sure many people will tell you, check with some of the regional Florida groups to get a handle on things and make some friends beforehand, if you can.
Every car takes a beating that goes to the Playa. Don't worry about your car too much, unless it's brand new and you can't handle the fact that it will never be perfectly clean again... Mechanically speaking, if you care for your car it will be fine!
I'm going by myself this year too! Good luck with the ticketing!

Re: Virgin Burner out in Tampa, Florida
My place in line didn't come up before I had to go to work, and therefore missed on the sale yesterday. How hard is it going to be to get a ticket now?
Re: Virgin Burner out in Tampa, Florida
You're not hosed unless you think you are. No one can tell your mathematical chances with precision, but I'll tell you this: I know no one among my friends or on this board who kept trying last year and didn't get a ticket. Surely there are exceptions, but most people who kept looking--and requested their time off--got lucky. June of every year heralds a significant number of drop-outs as people 1) change jobsSemiNudeChris wrote:My place in line didn't come up before I had to go to work, and therefore missed on the sale yesterday. 2) chicken out 3) tackle personal issues.
You will want to read up about the STEP program and the OMG sale and meet local Burners via the "Regionals" link on the main site and on FB, because everyone wants to sell to a friend or a "real Burner", and not a scalper.
