Howdy y'all virgin from Texas.
Hey this is Dan from Houston, Texas. I'm 35, single, male, and a BM virgin. I've been lurking for a couple months since 2013 tickets went on sale. I first read about BM in an early 90's write-up in Rolling Stone magazine and have read up on the evolution of the event for years. Hopefully, this can become at least a semi-annual event.
A lot of the regional mailing lists are completely dead with no activity over long periods of time. . . this board looks active so here I am.
I camped and backpacked a lot in my teens but haven't at all since then. Still, I feel like packing everything in and out is the best option. I want to bring as little as necessary after essentials such as food, water, sun protection, clothing, first aid, etc. I'm going to fill my pack and everything else will be optional. A lot of weighing the necessity of items between now and August shall ensue.
The drive for me will take three days and 2000+ miles!
So where are all y'all Texans at? I hope to make some connections in the next few months online or in person.

Hello Dan and welcome. We are in central Texas and it takes us about three days, just putzing along. We stay in Fernley and stock up the water, perishables etc before we go on in. Lots of people go on into Reno and do the same. Then, on your trek out, Fernley is a great place to take a real shower, eat a substantial meal, deplayafy as much as you can and sleep.

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hi, Texas...
I'm sorry, while you were lurking and jerkin' around, the quota for Texas Burners filled up. It does that. So, try again...

Re: Howdy y'all virgin from Texas.
Heh I saw your post before seeing the reply to my own. I want to sightsee along the way. I don't want to drive 12-15 hour days. I want to see Arches National Park in Utah, and will be taking the north route to I-80. I don't know if I will be leaving from Corpus Christi or Beaumont, because I travel between the two cities for work. You know what would be really awesome to see would be the air races in Reno on the weekend of September 11. But that's a week out from Burning Man.
Re: Howdy y'all virgin from Texas.
I did Arches 3 weeks ago. And Monument Valley, 4 corners, Terlingua and Big Bend. It was very cool. My first motorcycle ride.
I have been invited on another ride for the northwest, beginning on Sept 4 and ending up in Reno for the races. I am considering it but I don't know if I want to be gone from home a month. I may come home and fly out to Reno for it.
I am planning on taking 3 days maybe 4. If my friend comes I will probably bring an RV, if she does not, probably bring an RV or just my truck and a tent.

Check southwest.com right NOW. If you aren't too late, their sale included passes between August 26 and December to just about anywhere including Reno.

True, most of those in the Bible Belt react with determined slutdom. But some poor souls take all that crap too seriously.
