Dadsy, people do use walkie-talkies (or hand-held CB radios) with varying success. I googled walkie-talkie eplaya to find these (among others):
Walkie-talkie thread
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=26549
Radios that work
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=29196
But . . . just be comfortable with the idea that you will totally get separated from your friends sometimes, and strike up conversations with total strangers instead. It's socially acceptable. Hell, it's a time-honored Burning Man tradition. Happens to everyone.
Thanks Savannah, im more than happy to get seperated, i was typing in Walky not walkie into the search bar, my bad

Re: 10 more aussies
Daytime, it's fairly easy to keep track of everyone...and not everyone is going to want to go out at the same time to the same places, anyway. At night, to guarantee getting separated, be sure to ride your bikes...if ya got 'em.
We when travel at night on bikes it's rarely to just ride aimlessly, but rather with a specific destination in mind. When separation occurs, and it will, everyone knows where to meet up and regroup. Bike night trips are usually reserved for some deep playa event. Most fun at night is to go out on foot lingering here an there at interesting venues that you would otherwise blow by on a bike.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Re: 10 more aussies
I keep thinking of this children's song, and imagining it sung with an Australian accent.
Ten green bottles sitting on the wall,
Ten green bottles sitting on the wall,
And if one green bottle should accidentally fall,
There'll be nine green bottles sitting on the wall.
mmm. oh pardon me, please carry on. no foreshadowing intended. just a minor amusement for me.

They are too busy singing about Kookaburra and gum trees and billibongs to sing about green bottles...

Re: 10 more aussies
I think we have pretty run through our list of Australian stereotypes by page two. But I suspect your average Aussie is fairly adventurous and tough-minded. Almost everywhere I have been, I have seen Aussie tourists, and that's saying something.
As has been said (I suppose) 60,000 burners using walkie talkies with a limited amount of bandwidth.. the airwaves gets crowded fast. Besides, your conversations will consist of "I am over here, by someone's tent, and I think they are burning something, where are you?"
I suggest the ten of you march as a unit together, wherever you go. Wear identical costumes as well. That will freak everyone out.

Re: 10 more aussies
this is getting ridiculous. surely there are enough aussies already? i mean 8 is about 7 more than i can cope with. can we not just start "the oz quarter" or something and get them all out at 12 and trash fence so we can have some peace? I mean they already ruined marmite by adding sweeteners then they go and invent that travesty "vegemite" clearly not realising that a) marmite is already vegetarian and b) its made from beer and c) is far superior to anything a convict or exile could possibly create.......

Re: 10 more aussies
My high school was next to the Fourex (XXXX) Brewery in Milton...never touched a Fosters until I moved to California. Even then I preferred to drink Corona over Fosters.
Fosters...Australian for Bats Piss.
I like Tooheys but can't find it here in America. All they bloody have is Fosters!
And for some ungodly reason they sell Bundy Ginger Beer in San Francisco...but not Bundy Rum (Bundaberg Rum).
Welcome and have a great time m8!

Whoa, I just saw this.... they add sweeteners to Marmite? Oh hell no! That's akin to that that abomination known as "bread and butter pickles" (AKA sweet pickles).graidawg wrote:this is getting ridiculous. surely there are enough aussies already? i mean 8 is about 7 more than i can cope with. can we not just start "the oz quarter" or something and get them all out at 12 and trash fence so we can have some peace? Look, this whole thing is a travesty. Based on the Australians we already have, they are all too drunk to count to ten.
