Hello and a question.
Hi Everyone!
I'm from the east coast. I can't get enough work time off for an entire event with driving back and forth. If I have to leave a couple days early is easy to do? I was wondering how jammed up the passage out is for an early departure.
Thanks

Welcome to ePlaya, Slacker! Leaving a couple days early should keep you clear of the usual "Exodus" traffic jam, which happens on Monday. But surely... you don't want to miss the Man Burn on Saturday night. So that has you leaving Sunday morning, which is not bad.
Which means that you split your "couple days" between the beginning and the end of the event, probably arriving Tuesday. That's my first thought -- YMMV.
Whatever you do, don't try to leave Monday.

Re: Hello and a question.
You might have to wait a couple of hours--the trickle starts to swell Saturday night. If there's a wreck on 447, that will slow you down more.

Leaving on Sunday or Monday at the end of the event can take 6+ hours.slackercruster wrote:Hi Everyone!

Leaving Friday or Saturday should be pretty easy. There are people who have been to the event for years and don't want to see the Man burn as much as they want a calm ride out, so Saturday is when departures begin in earnest. Before the Man burns it's not too hard to get out, after he Burns is the first real push.
The early part of the event is my favorite; I'm glad you'll get to see it.

Welcome, fellow east coaster. What are your travel days? Flying, Driving?
Sunday after the man burn can take many hours, but you can be ready for an early morning Monday flight. Sunday night after temple burn is worse.

I'm from the East as well. I left right after the man burned, the wait was not too bad. You really do not want to miss the burn! Just arrive a few days later. Have your vehicle fully packed and ready to pull out before you head to the burning of the man. That's what I did and it made it very easy to head out.

Re: Hello and a question.
Hint: leave in the morning. Took us all of 15 minutes to leave Sunday morning. Some people like watching the temple burn, but it always feels like a downer to me, and isn't worth suffering the full brunt of exodus.

Re: Hello and a question.
See that's my problem. I need to pack up everything but the tent on Saturday (or just stay in someone else's
)and then leave early Sunday. By the time I got out on Sunday around 11am, it was several hours in exodus.
But I'm with you. I got super upset my first year on Sunday. I had been planning to leave Tuesday, but with everything packing up, the Temple was just the icing on the sadness cupcake. Now I skip the temple.

I was sad that I missed the temple burn but plan to stay for it next year.

Re: Hello and a question.
Yeah we missed the Temple burn also due to the rain warnings. None of us could risk a gate closure and not making it back to work on time. We DID see a decent glow in the distance while we were in exodus though..

Re: Hello and a question.
You might seriously consider the Burner Express bus to Reno airport. It bypasses the Exodus lines. The biggest issue though is that you are limited to 3 suitcases, so unless you have friends driving in who can bring in some of your stuff it could be a little tight.
