Hello! Vanny Needs a Ride from LA. (Sat. or Sun.)

Post by Vanny van Vanne » Tue Aug 12, 2014 5:36 pm

This is Stolyn from the Burning Man forum. I'm kind of embarrassed to ask, as I am a van and all. But I do need a ride this year--no joke! My would-be ride couldn't find a ticket and has pretty much given up on finding one. Is anybody leaving from LA on Sunday or possibly even Saturday? I'm in the WLA/Santa Monica area. I would prefer to leave on Sunday as I do not have an early admission pass, but I could possibly get out of work on Saturday if you are leaving then. I could just hang out in Gerlach in that case, until Gate opens. If you can provide the ride to and from that's awesome. I'd pay for my share of gas, of course. My bike is the biggest thing I have. Thanks in advance! I do have my ticket at Will Call. Just need the ride.

Don't hang in Gerlach. You could end up jail.

Because the locals don't like having their home swamped with random burners. And you better believe that people fill water jugs from any hose they find, without asking. Make noise when people are trying to sleep. They probably shit in people's yards. Would you want any of that where you live?

Fishy is correct - people loitering in Gerlach face fines and possible arrest for loitering (as well as transportation back to Reno that you will be charged highly for), depending on the mood of the officers and how many people are doing it. The police will be extremely aggressive about people loitering in communities along 447 this year (Wadsworth, Nixon, Empire, & Gerlach), and doing it just puts the event on a worse footing with the locals.

If you don't have a ride, wait in Reno. There is a rideshare program run through the Reno airport, and Burner Express is still taking reservations until the 16th.

Okay then I'll just ask to leave on Sunday, then. Won't make sense to get a ride just to Reno on Saturday. So I am looking for a ride from LA to Burning Man, preferably leaving on Sunday morning to get there for the Gate opening. Thanks!

Welcome, Vanny!

Rideshares:

Regional groups may have people looking to share, join all LA area regional email lists ASAP:

Or get to Reno and get matched up with a ride at the airport. Have a little gas money and proof of your ticket.
