Hi everyone,

I'm happy to say that I've found a really wonderful community of artists and burners here in the 3-D world, but have come to realize that I want to meet more folks and hear their stories! Naturally, the answer was to spend my saturday night in "wild" DC signing up for this board :D

While I'm still a Big Burn virgin, I helped coordinate volunteering/ camp organization in a sound camp for a regional shindig and fell in love with the community there. When you stumble across a group of people that make you feel so comfortable in your own skin and genuinely wish to create a supportive and self reliant community, join that bandwagon!

Now that I've promised myself that I'm going to see what this BRC home is like that everyone speaks of, I have to start planning; my goal is to spend the least amount of money for the most amount of comfort when I get to the playa. Any and all suggestions on how best to make my burn amazing are welcome!

Can't wait to hear all of your stories.

Welcome to E-Playa, QU. If you went to Playa del Fuego and are on the DC Burners listserv, you've made a good start. Read the Survival Guide and First-Timer's Guide. Ask questions, don't fear the snark.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

If you are comfortable at the burn you are doing something wrong.

That said if you use a tent you will need some kind of shade for it, a pop up shade structure works ok but by 10:00 am you will be sweating. You really need a monkey hut for a tent but I will still be warm during the day. Some of the theme camps provide monkey hut for campmates but my personal preference is the hexayurt with a solar powered swamp cooler. You can stay cool all day and warm all night and not have the guilt, or get the dirty looks, of an RV.

Don't worry, I know I'm going to be uncomfortable (and yet happy) on the Playa. I guess what I SHOULD have said is that I want to look fabulous while doing it.

If by looking fabulous you mean expressing yourself through playa finery, well--we have some amazing costuming threads if you're interested. This one might be my favorite.

Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper.

Well then my advice is less is more. Nothing is best. Don’t over think it because you will be running around naked after a day or two anyway. Which is very comfortable and even if you are not fabulous on the playa you will be fabulous!
