Greetings from Iceland!

Postby Splendid » Sun Nov 15, 2015 7:56 pm

Hello I'm Peter and I am a BM virgin!
I am a 22 year old from Iceland and I come in peace and I would very much like to experience the amazing adventure that Burning man is
I am saving up for BM as a computer science graduation trip and I am trying to persuade some friends to come with, but bringing friends is optional.. As I've heard stories about people going solo and making plenty of new friends 8).
I've been working really hard juggling a high expectancy job and school so I need to play unimaginably hard.

The reasons why I am so attracted to burning man is the open and weird community, the culture, the self reliance, the fire breathing octopus vehicles, the desert and the mind blowing engineering feats!

Anyways, I won't make this introduction any longer...

Welcome.

Hi, thanks for the replies guys.

I am now in a stage where I am obsessing about Burning Man and I just can't wait for it.

It'll be whatever it'll be but I will be glad to go there no matter the experience, lets just hope it will be great!

Welcome Peter. Don't ever be afraid to go solo. You will meet people along the way, you will meet people shopping for supplies and you will meet people waiting in line. By the time you pass through the gate, you will know 50 new friends.

One of my favorite activities at BM is exploring the playa on my own. I let the wind figuratively and literally blow me from one art installation to the next.

Take the time to read as much as you can, and check out the links in my signature below.

Make yourself at home here on eplaya, and be sure to use the search feature to find all sorts of interesting things.

Hiya Splendid!
I will be in Reykjavik next month for the Sonar festival. I'm a long-time Burner, and would be happy to meet up for coffee and a chat about Burning Man if you're in Reykjavik. 2016 will be my 22nd Burn, so I may have some perspective to offer ;) Drop me a note if you'd like to meet up!

Long time Burner, Looking to visit Iceland

Postby kirkjm » Sun May 01, 2016 1:51 pm

I'm a long time Burner, been going to Burning Man since 2006.
I've been apart of the French Quarter for 3 years. will be there for 2016.
I starting to plan a trip trip to Iceland early summer of 2017.
I'm looking for a cheap place to stay and what to see or go do.
I would love to hang out with some local Burners from Reykjavik.
I would be willing to work some (favors) trades ether on the Playa or off the Playa.

Thanks
Kirk

Welcome Splendid!

Just a quick side note, but I suggest that you not try to over persuade your friends to go. It takes a lot of effort, even more so coming in from overseas, so a person really needs to want it bad. It sounds like you already do! But if it turns out that your friends aren't feeling it with the same passion, you will likely have a better burn going solo. Going to Burning Man isn't easy, but it is well worth it!

I hope you make it!

Hi guys,
sadly I did not make it this year
My main excuse being poor acclimatization of finance.

Thanks for all your replies and playa wisdom I will keep them in mind 275 days from now
