First timer... been a long time...

Post by majapi » Mon Mar 28, 2016 7:15 am

Well, it finally happened. After trying to get tickets for 2014 and 2015, I was able to score tickets for 2016 (plus a parking pass!). To say the least, I'm completely thrilled about going (well, minus the drive from Ohio). I feel like I've been planning and prepping for this thing for over two years now, so I feel like I should know what the heck I'm doing, but... Is there such a thing as being "over-prepared" for Burning Man? I do lots of camping, but never in this environment. Is it possible to overthink it???
My head is spinning with excitement!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Congratulations! As a fellow Birgin who has been wanting to go for years, I fully understand your excitement. I fall asleep planning for BM, I dream about it, and I wake up still thinking about it. Just today I had to start making an outline just to get the thoughts out of my head!

It's going to be a very long 5 months....
It seems that this is my circus, and apparently those are my monkeys.
I'll get the net.

Congratulations on finally getting your ticket! :D

I'm not sure if there is a such thing as being overprepared, but you'll probably bring too much stuff. (Oh, well). I always bring too much, myself. Typically, too much food, water, and clothes, and just the right amount of everything else. It's tradition.

I appreciate it all. Sounds like the whole "family" atmosphere is true! I'm hoping to use this experience to help come out of my shell a bit. Not a fan of being in the spotlight and typically more comfortable in the background, this whole experience is going to force me out of my comfort zone. I've made myself a promise that at least once a day, every day that I'm out there, I do something that would normally make me uncomfortable in the real world. So not only will this be a great time, I look at is as alternate therapy! :)

If shyness is an issue, please check out the following thread. Not only are there great tips, but you'll realize that there are a lot of shy Burners, and a lot of us are practicing being more free and more brave and outgoing.

Ha! Thanks for the suggestion Savannah. I was bumbling around eplaya yesterday afternoon (instead of doing my work) and happened to come across that same post. It had some great suggestions!

Welcome Majapi, You will be surprised how fast the burn gets here. What I mean is, the closer we get to the event, time just flies by. We are never 100% ready.
Not a fan of being in the spotlight and typically more comfortable in the background,
don't worry about being in the spotlight. No matter what you wear or what you do people will just smile and wave. Or hug and offer you a drink. It's not intimidating at all. Welcome to ePlaya. You have 5 months to get to know us. Then meet us in person at the Meet & Greet.
