I've been reading and posting here since last September when I decided that I was going to get to the playa in 2016.
I spent last labor day weekend watching the live stream, sewing my playa coat and thinking about how I was going to manage to get myself and my belongings to the playa.
Luckily DC has a huge burner social scene. I live with burners and go to a lot of art activities and dance parties in DC. I've found a camp to be a part of and figured out a thing I can contribute to that camp based on my skills and interests. As the East Coast has a lot of regionals, and I belong to camp that only goes to regionals, I've been (and continue to go!) to a lot of smaller burns.
I'm prepared for the fact that the playa will be huge, overwhelming, amazing, hard, and full of a wide variety of people, from pretty much everywhere - including people I don't ever really see at smaller burns.
I know that I cannot see it all, or dance all night every night. I know that the time period is much longer as I'm doing some setup for my camp, and self care and sleep are going to be essential. I've got lots of friends going, but I'm excited about meeting new people and having all sorts of experiences.
I'll also be 52 in June, so I've got the whole "...I'm not as pretty/young/have as fabulous costumes/thin/fit..." thing going on.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone here who contributes to this ongoing conversation, answers all my questions, and I am looking forward to meeting people I've read and enjoyed here in person!
This is a pic of me at my camp last February at Frostburn - wearing said playa coat with its heavy duty tundra liner installed

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome Ann_Vader! You will meet so many people that names become unimportant. I love your coat. It will double as a blanket.
That bit about...
That bit about...
is only as important as you make of it. Decorate a sensible stylish hat. One that gives shade, looks great and has a chin strap. Decorate a vest for daytime and venture out. It's who you are and what you do that matters. Can't wait to meet cha.I'll also be 52 in June, so I've got the whole "...I'm not as pretty/young/have as fabulous costumes/thin/fit..." thing going on.
Those aren't buttermilk biscuits I'm lying on Savannah

Re: Burgin, sort of!
thank you for the welcome, Elderberry and Ratty!
And thank you for the compliments on my playa coat, Ratty.
Its a classic swing coat pattern, which is really flowy when not all puffy and lined with a double layer of thinsulite and polarfleece 300, as it was in this picture. It also did double duty as an extra blanket for Frostburn, so I'm sure it will get its use at the big burn!
I'm far more excited about going to the playa than someone should be, who is also planning to go to several burns over the next few months.
