Two of us have decided to wing it and put together our Burn last minute. I (Thurman) have just started delving into all the awesome info on this board. Excuse any redundant questions or comments.
We are interested in camping independently and not joining a camp. We are prepared to cook for ourselves for the week.
INTRODUCTIONS!
1st: Thurman! 22 year old virgin artist and carny, spent the summer travelling the country working with a festival vendor. Fully equipped for self-reliance and experienced with festival set up, tear down, and especially kitchen work. Obviously no dumping your gray water bins on the Playa! I have an eye for technical details and will always lend a helping hand. Stick it between those two gears to loosen them? Uhh.... okay!
2nd: Gus! 22 year old virgin computer scientist. Equipped for self reliance with scouting experience. Currently remote camping in the Rocky mountains, will return just in time to pull our Burn together! Gus is providing the pickup truck for our excursion, which we intend to use as the basis of our shelter. Gus is SINGLE!
We are travelling from Ohio to the Playa in our pickup, planning for 3 days of travel time.
We need from the community
-Advice for prepping our pick-up
-Advice for creating a camp
-Advice for how to eat
-Smiles and Good Vibes
We wonder if we should attempt at this late date to join a camp.
We are also interested in meeting up with others to create an impromptu camp.
We are still learning how parking passes and camp placement work.
We are excited. Very Excited.
We cannot wait to see you on the Playa.
Thanks for reading! If you have some helpful words please leave 'em and we'll get back to you.

Hi There!
I've edited your post slightly (please hunt down your tickets in Tickets Offered. Refresh often! . . . Alas, no one checks Greeting threads for ticket buyers).

Join your regional groups and local email lists (if someone's plans change, they don't want to get stuck with that ticket and will want to sell face-to-face, locally):

Also, post on social networking and let friends, family, and co-workers know you're looking. Tell everyone! They might not know of anything, but they might hear of something available a week from now, and come to you.
You have asked some very general questions regarding stuff that's well-covered, so I would say--keep reading. Everyone's packing and shopping right now, so you won't find as many people as you normally would who are able to devote time to stuff that's already here. However, if you have searched and we can tell there is a very specific or unusual question, you can post in a specific subforum and you will probably find someone who can answer it. But I will give you 4 tips:
* Google keyword + eplaya and then search within "More results from eplaya.burningman.org"
* Camp placement is something you apply for in the Spring to receive placement by June or July. If you are not part of a placed theme camp, pay extra attention to the map you receive at Greeters (one step beyond Gate, where they take your ticket) and aim for open camping--do not camp in the shaded areas. Always talk to any neighbors before pounding stakes or laying out camp to make sure you're on the same page and that you're aware of boundaries. Positive interactions with neighbors make for a far better week.
* Most camps have closed their doors. This is not an emergency in the least if you like camping, reading and preparing. Impromptu camps for primarily social reasons are great things, and more likely to happen for you at this stage than you're likely to find a theme camp. However, you don't need a camp to survive, thrive, have fun, or to visit other camps all day long. I'm a big fan of camping with 1 or 2 other people, frankly. Camps have infrastructure and little perks--but they also require work, fees, and there can be politics/drama.
* One of many threads in the Food & Drink forum (leads to other threads, too):

Good luck!
