I attended Burning Man in 2015, but in hindsight, despite putting in solid effort in my camp, my costumes, and such, I now realize how much of an observer I was. But that's all with the experience of 2016. No doubt 2016 I was a participant. Can I put my finger on what the difference was? Probably not, but I was fully engaged and a person I've been looking for for a while. Not only did I have an amazing time, I took the burn home with me in a way that I never did in 2015 (not that I didn't bring plenty of the playa home in my tent, sleeping bag, cooler, Rubbermaid totes, and underwear both times).
In any case, I'm looking to extend myself deeper into the burner community and look forward to interacting with ya'll, be it digitally or in the dust.

Welcome. Not everyone gets it the first time around.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Frogchop, Welcome. I'm one of those that didn't get it the first time. I didn't even come back the next year. Where do you live? You may be able to burn all year like we do here in Northern California.
