I'm glad it's back in the park; we lost a great deal of momentum the last three years, as it's hard to bring a theme camp to a warehouse party.

So, it was a bit sparse on the ground. Last time we were in the park, there were 50+ theme camps, this time there were 20 :(

We were very happy with Destiny Lounge (lite); our crew threw down!

I am also in Ventura County, perhaps we could meet up sometime.

You need to hook up with the villains from gigsville.

They are old school FKOs and there ain’t no bootz-in-the-dryer.

I had a swell time hangin with them back in the day.

It was rather noticeable that only a section of the park was fenced off for the event.

Hopefully it'll be better next year ... but putting it on the same day as the SF Decom seemed to be a little ill-advised.

I'll send you a PM. It would be wonderful to meet another burner who lives out in the LA boonies.

I see that both Destiny Lounge and Gigsville were in the 3:00 Portal this year, although they were a bit further apart last year.

Perhaps, if I ever meet up with gaminwench in Real Life (TM, All Rights Reserved), and I actually don't turn out to be a total ass-hat in person, then maybe she'll agree to introduce me to those folks next year.

Or I'll just drop in, and put the blame on you!

SF Decom was better than ever. Black Rock on the Black Top. It was much bigger and not lined up on a straight street. Like before. You could wander around and get lost. It had everything you love but the dust. The big stage, Roller Disco and Silent Disco were all inside a huge warehouse. It was open later because of the location and had camps there that hadn't participated in Decom before. I was impressed.

That does sound like something fun to see. :)

I'm sure that after all the difficulties that they've suffered in the last couple of years, the LA Decom organizers can build back up again in time.

From your avatar photo, I think that you're the kind gentleman that gave me my 3D glasses for Destiny Lounge at the LA Decom ... and IIRC, you actually had a smile on your face.

Now, I could be wrong, but it sounds like you're neither old-at-heart, nor cynical ... I'm afraid that we'd have to ask you to pass both an entrance exam, and have a current-member's recommendation, before allowing you into the club!

Nice to meet you, sir!

Now ... next question, do you, or anyone else, have a clue as to which group of pranksters closed down the 3:00 artery (just by the portal), for the broken water-main this year (complete with buried manhole cover)?

It was so fun watching the burgins get all pissed-off at having to walk over to 3:30 or 4:00 because of the "safety hazard".

That was an excellent jape, and definitely deserves a bottle of something nice, if I can find out which camp to drop it off at. PMs welcomed if the camp wants to keep it a secret for some reason. :coffee:

That was the Gigsville folks. They were funneling all of the traffic to their little portable trailer bar, right across the Portal from us.

Great prank, I walked the line and encouraged their baaad behavior.

According to a ranger we know, the "repair project" was scheduled and condoned.

Even though I can understand that it was a responsible move to make sure that the Rangers were informed, so that ESD & LEO vehicles could be safely vectored around the blockage ... I'm somehow a little saddened by the thought that such a funny practical-joke was "scheduled and condoned".

I was really enjoying the concept that there was still some of the old Cacophony Society anarchic pranksterism alive in the city.

I watched a couple of DPW / BMORG vehicles pass thru the blockade with little challenge and also saw a few attendees just plow thru it, although they were jeered at severely. It was good, light-hearted playa theatre done correctly. Most people were a bit befuddled by it but for the most part played along. We did have to put up some temporary barricades protecting our camp after we found detouring folks wandering thru our kitchen to get around it. Once those were up, we also were complicit in directing folks to either go around or to the bar across the way.

In fact ... I believe that she might even be willing to introduce me to the folks at gigsville next year and let Token off the hook for my presence! 8)

I think 2006-2008. Something like that.

He fell over and thankfully didn’t kill anyone the final year there.

Sorry, these things get all fuzzy and blended over the decades.

You say that like it is a bad thing.

Yes they can be assbent, but that is part of the magic of the whole village. It has flavor, is definitely potentially fatal, and there is no monoculture.

Bring a good medical kit, lots of burn cream, and a 151 proof flask to be administered 3 shots every 2 minutes to minimize risk of shock.

One of the last REAL Burning Man theme camps. When Gigsville hangs it up, that’s about the end.

Perhaps the ORG's board will invite them out to the new Celebrities-and-Rich-Folks-Only event at Fly Ranch, after they've sold Burning Man to Disney and retired out there on the proceeds.

Don't you know how incredibly dangerous it is for a cynical old dog fart like me to up my game and learn new tricks???

I suspect that I'll just have to try to make drinking buddies out of those Gigsville ruffians instead, and make crazy drunken plans for the eventual downfall of the evildoers that dun-gone-and-broke the old Burning Man! :coffee:

The DGS-gods have smiled on me, so it looks like I'll get to meet some of you folks in person and on-playa this year.

Is the ePlaya Meet & Greet usually scheduled for the same day and time each year, or does it vary?

My camp boss will start putting our work shifts together soon, and I'd like to make sure that I keep my time free to attend.
