I can't believe I'm actually going
Hello.
I've been dreaming of going to Burning Man since I was 15 or so. Admittedly because I saw that Malcolm in the Middle episode.
My father passed in December. He was sick for a long time. And like many, he always had a long list of things he meant to do. Never set up his model train room. Never finished that classic car. Never made it to Alaska. There was always a reason to not do something. Money, time, eventually health.
I'm not putting the things I want on hold anymore.
I bought a ticket in the FOMO sale. I'm building handheld battery powered infinity mirrors as gifts.
I can't wait to meet you all.

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome SDB. I hear you on wanting to make in through life with no regrets. Burning Man is one of those places you'll be talking about for years. The great grandkids will be hearing stories about it.
Keep preparing and we'll see you in August.

We can’t believe you’re actually going either, but here you are

Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: I can't believe I'm actually going
Hey!!! Would you like a mission??? I posted this somewhere in this forum, but I can't even find it. Here is the mission should you choose to accept:
Are you going to Burning Man this year?
Do you like missions?
Well then, you're just what I need. I happen to be part of the best camp on EARTH and this year I am pregnant for the first time and I am not going. Happy sad about that.
So, what I need is a dusty gift fairy. Here are the details: I will send you a few small items (a necklace, an inflatable cactus, etc) each with a note. The camp is at 5:15 & H - SUPER EASY TO FIND. Go during Sunset any night and you can enjoy the camp's Sunset Lounge, music, drinks, and food!!!!
You can deliver anytime during set up or the event and experience the joy of my amazing camp and of being a super special gift fairy.
No experience necessary! There are no requirements for this mission.
The interview process is however lengthy. JK, just write me and let's chat and make some cross country magic happen.

Re: I can't believe I'm actually going
Hello my friend. Sit and listen
Burning man has that effect on people.
Grossly there are two types: That are those who just go to another festival and there are burners. Maybe, if you are lucky, when you go you will discover which one are you.
If you go with a good mindset, you are off to a big adventure. I am proud of your courage! But remember, read the survival guide. Do not presume anything. Read the principles and commit them to your heart.
And use eplaya for planning. There is a lot to be learned here.
See ya in the dust!

Re: I can't believe I'm actually going
I've been absorbing every bit of information and media I can find. Joined the local Facebook groups. Meeting local burners. Have got everything I need except for food and water.
I feel like I'm prepared. But still have this ominous feeling of being completely unprepared.

I know that feeling. Our first burn was like that. Guess what? We did not have a thing to worry about. Seems we were prepared for everything tossed at us and that felt good.seedetailsbelow wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:08 amI've been absorbing every bit of information and media I can find. Plan away. It makes all the difference.

Don't wanna gum up the forum with another topic, so asking here. When should I worry about getting my tickets?
Like, when is a reasonable time to bother ticketing and ask for will call?

We got our tickets in the mail last week. I am assuming you have them purchased and are waiting for delivery. I'd give it another week

Hah, seedetails, you sound like me my first year. It may be harder than you expect, but there's definitely nothing like it. Hope you're well-prepared and excited. Welcome to the family!

Re: I can't believe I'm actually going
Well I was more than prepared. At least on the survival and comfort side.
Nothing could have prepared me for the feelings of ownership and community. I've felt so lost for years, constantly distracting myself with entertainment and consuming. I was trying to fill a hole where a community should go.
I've been inspired to stand up for my convictions. Moving away from animal products. Picking up guitar again, I used to be pretty damn good. Improving my health and fitness. And I wanna make shit! I wanna learn some sort of trade so I can give something to this community. I plan on being involved locally year round.
On day one I never would have said this. But I miss the dust.
