Schizoids! Channelers! Actors!

Post by galora » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:05 pm

Hey I want to find a group of people to do some performance art with. I want to create something akin to a tent-0-fear where we explore emotion, particularly fear, since we don't see much of an outlet for that emotion in society sans going to see a horror flic, or watching fox news. [tee hee] We could host an emotional workshop where we go deep into anger, sorrow and fear. I've helped put one of these on in the past and it was incredible.

We could also have a stage for improv, skits, stand-up, open mic, or whatever. [in the man, on the playa... somewhere]

Anyone interested? Ideas?
I'm in Los Angeles, for reference.
Also: I've never seen any playa improv/acting before, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done somewhere. Does anyone know of any camps or people I could talk to about that?

Thanks All!

hey ho

as i will be flying all the way from south africa and am limited in terms of 'stuff' to bring with to participate, it seems only logical and practical that i respond to your mail being an actor and performance artist.

i would love to be a part of putting something together, would also be very keen to be a prt of a fear workshop. our fears wear so many different masks that they are masters of hiding. what a better place to face them and than at BM with like minded warriors.

well i guess im just enthusiastic to meet cool people and be a part of a crowd who are involved in ideas and projects where i will feel empowered to participate. also as im from the other end of the world i dont really know too many people, but thats ok too, last year i met a whole bunch of amazing people, not my kinda freak, but very sweet and sincere folk.

hope to see ya there

Improv on the playa works very well and is a lot of fun.

Hey blyslv, I never expected for you to be so nice to someone and supportive. Why didn't you do your usual and talk about who is taking and who is not or who you think is worthy? Keep up the good work. See, I told you there was so hope for you. How come you are so supportive of imporv and not music? I look forward to your response.

Sorry Galora, I've been having fun with blyslv on the forum lately. About your topic though I would recommend talking to the Black Rock International Burner Hostel and talking with some of the people there. You get amazing travelers from all over the world who are looking for things to be a part of.

Check out,

I haven't done any acting in a while but it sounds like fun. Maybe you could come by the camp and do an improve with the crew.

Peace,

Let me know if your interest in this still remains Galora.

ever heard of The Theatre of Cruelty? it's an entirely novel concept for which certain dynamics of theatre are immanent to play, much like you describe.
I surrender to the fever of dreams, but only to steal from them new laws. I seek difference, subtlety, the intellectual eye in delirium, not rash vaticination.

improv often can work very well if there is at least a very rough skeleton framework agreed to beforehand. this is not set in stone but merely allows all 'improvisors' involved to have a starting point to meet from. or certain 'points' are agreed to but inbetween these points the freedom of improvisation takes place. because there exists at least some structurally concrete elements the chances for the improvisation, especially with many people, to fall apart into chaos is lessened. not that chaos isnt fun or desirable.

This way so many different elements can be brought into play, instruments, characters, even rough situations to facilitate further improv. basically what im saying is this: improv is greatly given a lift if there is at least some very rough idea of what one wants to improv around. yes this is still improv then. its just a little mnore guided.
