Looking for stories to carry out to the playa....

Post by fleabag » Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:45 pm

Thanks for taking the time to drop in.

For those of you not familiear with Burning Man, it is an annual event that takes place in a northern desert (or playa) in Nevada. The annual attendance is around 35,000 people, making it the fifth largest city in Nevada during the course of the event.

For 2006. I am creating a message-forwarding performance art piece for Burning Man. I will roam the city, forwarding on messages gleaned from respondents to this message. They will be transferred by hand to paper and placed in an envelope. The recipient will receive a message purely by chance, as the envelopes will be unmarked.

Messages of despair and redemption are very important. Many of us, regardless of gender, race, creed, color or political affiiliations, we are all feeling the same emotions. I will, in my small way, bring this message to the desert.

If you could please take the time to fill out the questionnaire below, you will in turn become just a little more engaged in the world. I can promise that.

If you so wish, you are more than welcome to provide your return address information however it is BY NO MEANS necessary. My reasoning for this is that some of the respondents may indeed want to engage in a dialogue regarding their circumstances. Please note that by providing your return address information, it in no way guarantees a response. This is purely a question of chance, based on who receives your message. Also, please note that I will NOT forward your address to any person or organization.

We have begun.

Please tell your story. There is no word limit. Your story may involve the loss of a loved one, a chance meeting or event that changed your life, a breakthrough moment in your life (or of your country, for that matter), anything that is likely to strike a cord in a fellow human being.

Once again, thanks very much for taking time out of your day to share with me (and those that I will meet in a month’s time. YOu can send your responses to me at [email protected].
