Helly Belly just sent me this. It Predicts COLD Weather.... for the burn.

NOAA says lows in the mid-fifties through the week. I'm assuming wind chill will take it down to the low forties — still enough to warrant packing the silk underwear and an extra poncho (did I mention I'm taking the Burn Night graveyard shift at the Temple? It gets powerful cold out there...)

Thats what qualifies as COLD on the West Coast? Try this one on for size: when Millenium Park opened in late July of 2004, the high in Chicago was 66. The low was ... a bit lower than the mid 50s. A good bit.

You guys do not know how good you have it.

I went to "A" school in Great Lakes, was there for a bit over a year; while I love Chicago, I really truly appreciate not having to live there.

i went to OS A school at great lakes in 1974-75. froze my ass the whole tim. i'm born and bred californian. there was record snow that year. the base shut down twice.

That's what passes for cold in August in the Nevada desert. Daytime temperatures do look delicious, though...

This was the best weather I've ever experienced at Burning Man in 11 years. The extremes weren't too extreme, a couple of the days were even cool and pleasant, no major lasting dust storms (a couple of small flurries but nothing too bad). I kinda hate chit-chatting about the weather, but I think we were pretty lucky!

You must have been in a better spot than us! We were hit with some major dust & wind Monday through Weds. The winds were so bad on Monday & Tuesday that we weren't even sure if we were going to be able to use our front dome as the dust kept howling straight into it, and the parachute we used to cover it was half in tatters by Weds. Granted, the tatters gave me some great photo's, but it made the best hammock in the dome useless for part of the day.

On Weds we were at the Deep End when a half-hour white out hit, blowing down part of their sign & turning them into "the Deep"

And Weds night was freezing! Thank god I found a way to keep warm....

Thurs- Sunday were okay during the day (a bit warm for me), but the nights were perfect!

ouch. By any chance, were you on the 2:00-6:00 side of camp? That side always seems much more windy and dusty every year, so I never camp on that side!

Yeah, the nights were great. I didn't even need a jacket on Sunday night.

I love mild nights at BM. I remember 2000, having to wear every article of clothing I brought on every night just because it was so cold.

I started a whole thread about the dust storm on Weds. It's in the Experiences discussion. We were just northwest of Center Camp and got nailed by both that and the Uber Dust Devil From Beyond the day before.

I agree though, once the cyclone came and went, temps moderated a good deal and Thursday and Friday were perfect, weatherwise! I spent the whole of Thursday out adventuring. Burn night was beautiful out at the Temple, my snow leopard costume kept me perfectly warm into the 3AM hour. Never shivered once.

Damn glad I brought my down comforter, though...

We were on Wheel of Fortune at 6:00- dead center, facing back towards the Gate. Dust-storm central on Mon & Tues. The Weds storms seemed to come from all directions.
