Help Finding Theme Camps
Help Finding Theme Camps
This will be our third year at Burning Man and I can never find all the theme camps I want to visit from the list here on the BM theme camp site...is there a logical way to find them?
We have no problem finding the stuff that is on the program that is given at the front gate but the really funny theme camps here on the website seem impossible to find once at BM. I really don't want to email all those theme camps asking where they will be that I want to visit ahead of time, but is that the only way?

A ride? Hell, man, get the whole damn car.
Your Grandma obviously didn't school you in the ways of the flesh market like mine did.
"Ronnie," she'd say to me, "There are no $1,000 a night hookers. Only $1,000 a night johns, and lots of them!"
And then she'd laugh that old lady belly laugh of hers and start up another story. She's a force of nature, my Grandma.

For the love of St. Peter, Ron. Can't you try to be just a little more sensitive. I mean, really!

Use a spreadsheet program. 4 columns of data. Column 1 for the camp name. Column 2 for the clock position. Column 3 for the street name. Column 4 for notes (so-and-so's camp).
Now make your list of camps and their locations. Include all the stuff you really want to see.
Before you leave, sort your spreadsheet by camp name and print. Now sort the list again by column 2 (clock position). Put the paper back in your printer on the other side and print. You should now have a double sided list of the camps you want to see. Side one is good for when you want to find a specific camp. Side two is for when you're wandering around and are wondering if something you're interested in is close by ("hmm, I'm at 4:30, was there something around here I wanted to see?").
You probably won't get to see everything, and that's fine. But the list ought to help.

Dude, that was me being sensitive. Not for love of St. Peter, mind, he's too fat and old for me. But still, I am sensitive! I'm a Sensitive New Age Guy for cryin' out loud!SED wrote:Ron wrote:...

It all sounds like a lot of extra hassle....for me it's simple this year. Find Camp Apokiliptika, the Eplaya Bar, and know where Doc Pyro's camp is for the Meet & Greet. Show up for the Meet & Greet on Thursday, go fight the art cars for a view of the burn Saturday night and voila, that's my scheduled plans. As for finding the camps I'll just get on the bike and ride the ring streets checking things out...if I see it I see it, if I don't oh well...but I'm sure I'll find enough distractions as is to keep me occupied.

Thank you for over 7 years of eplaya memories. I have asked Emily Sparkle to delete my account and I am gone. Goodbye and Goodluck to all of you! I will miss you!

That tool is pretty cool but can't be carried with you on the playa.Moonpie wrote:Absolutely perfect...just what I wanted. Thanks frenchblue!
Last year, SwampDog converted the web list back into Excel so that you could sort by camp name, location, etc.
I just PM'd him to see if he is doing that again this year. That was great because we carried the list in our backpacks and used it as a way to plan. Wandering is fun too but there were certain camps we just had to see and list really helped get us close (though you still have to do a little searching once you're in the neighborhood).
Kamp Apokiliptika (mis-spelled Camp Apokiliptika in the official list) is at 3pm and Anxious.....really its at the end of the world....

...it's the KASTAPO...like the Gestapo...only eviler...with more naked body parts...

xls for camps
Last year I put together a sortable xls of camp listings. Major Roosevelt PM'd me about it (I appreciate that is was so valuable people remembered it!) and asked if I'm doing it again.
I'm not going to the burn this year, but I should be able to find time to do it next week. If anyone wants my "toolkit" (it's pretty raw stuff and requires a lot of hand work, about 1-2 hrs total) I'd be glad to send it. Otherwise I'll post it here when I'm done.

Several viktims wandered into our "web" (kamp)
with a print out in their hands! They were rewarded
with various bizarre forms of interrogatory torture
and cans of PBR.....
Are you so sure you want to find our Kamp????

have used the list to find Kamp Apokiliptika.

It's not the destination, it's the trip.
Try a zen navigation approach: even tho you may not find the camp you're looking for, you will surely find a camp you need to see.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone . . . there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
