Towing a car
Towing a car
If our RV is towing a trailer loaded with a car, do we need a second vehicle-pass.
What kind of towing is allowed with a single vehicle pass?

Re: Towing a car
I believe the answer depends if the car you are towing is a "regular" passenger car, an art car, a mutant vehicle, or transportation for the disabled.
Each one of those possibilities requires some different type of pass/registration.

A trailer does not require a separate Vehicle Pass. (What's on/in the trailer may be subject to various regulations.)

That's a hell of a question!! I have no idea... A trailer doesn't need a pass, a mutant vehicle on a trailer doesn't need a pass but it DOES need a DMV pre-approval letter to come through the gate.Elliot wrote:A trailer does not require a separate Vehicle Pass. A regular car, riding in on a trailer... that's a conundrum, huh!!
Hope you have an AWESOME time out there!! (Elliot!)

Re: Towing a car
I may be wrong but I seem to recall reading something on eplaya about not being allowed to bring in second "street vehicles" (cars or motorcycles).
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: Towing a car
I would imagine that if you plan to use that towed car at any time during the week to leave, or drive off trailer, it needs a vehicle pass. If the vehicle is going to be used as transportation, it probably should have a pass, that's the intent. Otherwise, the gate might think you are trying to game the system. For all the gate knows, you are going to use that towed vehicle to shuttle people in and out of BRC later in the week.

Don't you think, it is a very bad organised event, nobody knows a clear and definite answer of many important questions.
I feel just before jumping in a black hole, may be they will let You in, may be you will be refused.
As a virgin burner, my first impession are very disappointing, no clear rules, no costumer service, ticketsupport does not give answers to important questions.
And it is is not the same situation beiing refused in the desert, as in a city, where I take the subway and go home.

This is just a message board, not Burning Man HQ.
Most of the people you aren't satisfied with are volunteers who are currently swamped with work.
Simple answer, get a pass for the towed car and then you're safe.
Or go to Disneyland instead. You seem a better fit for that.
BM is in fact an amazingly well run event considering the logistics of it all.

You might have right, thetrouble is, we are still in Europe, we will fly to SF only three days before, and from here is not so easy to find tickets.
and where You are mistaken, we are absolutly not fit for Disneyland.

Virgin burner ???? Did you forget about your art project in years past? Yeah, it's hard to attend. They try to weed out problem people.Help me with bringing my parents to Burning Man
I am Daniel Feles, from Budapest/Hungary/Europe, a member from the reOnion (http://reonion.tumblr.com/) team, from 2011, when we did a crazy project to bring a huge onion installation all the way from Hungary to Burning Man, with all the interactions, projectons and decorations. The solution is therefore to avoid all this hassle and to simply not attend.pfeles wrote:Don't you think, it is a very bad organised event, nobody knows a clear and definite answer of many important questions.

Re: Towing a car
I don't think you can bring in a car on a trailer if it isn't a mutant vehicle. I'm not sure where I read this, probably in the first timers guide a long time ago. You should be able to find a place to park it in Reno, if nothing else, at the airport.
Is it possible to have someone else drive the car if you need it to leave the playa? You will need a vehicle pass if you do.

Re: Towing a car
It took a while to find this buried in the text, but, no, you cannot bring in a car on a trailer. It will end up sitting in an unattended lot on the playa all week, and Burning Man takes no responsibility for any damage that occurs to it. Pink's idea of leaving it at the airport (or finding a long-term parking lot in Reno) is probably the best idea.
BRC Vehicle Protocols: Vehicles not allowed to enter Black Rock City
The "vehicles listed above" are basically registered mutant vehicles, register vehicles for people with disabilities, etc.
BRC Vehicle Protocols: Vehicles not allowed to enter Black Rock City
emphasis mine.Any vehicle not listed above, including off-road recreational vehicles, may not enter Black Rock City. If you attempt to bring it to Burning Man you will be required to leave it at the Gate in an unsupervised lot, or bring it back home before you enter the event. Be aware that operating these vehicles at Burning Man can result in your vehicle being impounded, and your being fined by law enforcement and/or ejected from the event.

Re: Towing a car
Perhaps it is a bit off subject, but WHY do you want to bring a vehicle on a trailer to Burning Man?
What kind of vehicle is this?
If it is just a common sedan I would be too concerned about leaving it at the "gate". I assume that it would be in the lot next to will call. Not supervised, but there will be people around all the time.

Just for clarification. They DON't mean the Burning Man airport. They mean the Reno airport. I hope you figure it out.
