Atomic Bar 2016
Returning to the playa in 2016 with the Atomic Bar. Do we need a health department permit for serving drinks (Atomic Punch)? I understand that no health department permit is needed if we are serving canned beer.
Best Regards,
Leo

Trilobyte or one of the other fountains of knowledge will surely give you an informed answer to your question; I just wanted to say that you, sir, are a playa Saint. Three cheers for Atomic Punch!

You can google that shit and get the word for word regs and the permit application too should you need it
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: Atomic Bar 2016
As of 2015, you did not need a permit for serving only alcoholic beverages. Note, technically (like anything) that this could change in 2016, you never know. I would recommend that in March or April, you google "do you need a food permit to serve drinks at burning man?" . . . which is how I found the following 2015 document. Note that even acidic, pasteurized juices as mixers seem to be okay if you do not add ice or other foods to the original container. Juice boxes or canned sodas could also be used, although the cost would definitely add up. Anyway, have a look and verify for yourself--don't take my word for it.Leo wrote:Returning to the playa in 2016 with the Atomic Bar. I hear that the health department does indeed pay a visit much of the time to camps with permits, just to check up, but I hear it's very easy to survive it if you're taking the necessary precautions.

Thanks Savannah for the links. Time to return to my underground laboratory to continue tinkering with the secret formula for Atomic Punch. Will see you all on the playa.

Re: Atomic Bar 2016
I'm giving this one a nudge over to Theme Camps & Villages, since the thread title and first post start with an announcement about the camp/bar.
As others have suggested, no you do not need a permit to serve booze. Technically, if your concoctions include fresh food/mixers (fresh cut fruit, etc), you would need to obtain a Nevada health permit and follow safe food handling guidelines. In years past, the line was at shelf stable pour and serve mixers - frozen/refrigerated juices (basically anything that could spoil and get a person sick) required a permit.... but in 2015 the health department appeared to relax their stance a bit on mixers.
If your bar plan includes fresh ingredients, I'd suggest visiting the Nevada health department web site in the spring and send them an email to ask. They are generally really nice people, and most of the health dept. people who work the event are themselves long-time burners. They'll steer you in the right direction.
Good luck!
