In honor of the two roads most of us take to get the the Burn, let's say $447.34.
homo sum, nihil humani a me alienum est, puto...
Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
They have to be over $400 since they were $390 last year, so $420 is the logical amount but someone already guessed that so I'll go with $415, since 415 is code word for a disturbance, which the increase will no doubt cause. Take my money and let's burn already!

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
$390
If burning man really what’s to fix itself just put a name on the ticket of the buyer, and checked at the gate, so no scalping on tickets, if you can’t make it return to ticketfly for full refund, then the ticket is resold at face value.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
in all honesty, i think this is great.
it is taxing the 1% who can afford it anyway.
you know, the way things used to be....
i applaud this decision to make those who can afford the tip, and even pay for the beer, pay a little more.
all the while leaving the rest pretty much alone, so we all can share the pizza of prosperity.
let's eat.

Well remember that prize is an honor, I don't want to see it listed on eBay next week.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
I would like BMORG to grow a set and cancel the event this year. With all the money I'd save, I can afford to kick in $100 or more, gratis, to keep the lights on.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
Speaking personally, I'd like for all the "cancel the event" advocates to just 'grow a set' and either take the year off, stop going until the conditions make them happy, or pony up the dough it would take for Burning Man to cancel the event (since BMan would still have significant contractual obligations and staff to pay).
@bigbluedoggy - I saw that article, though it remains to be seen if Burning Man will appeal the decision.

I've tried the take-a-year-off plan. It works great. You save money, do tons less work, and even sort of regain a bit of enthusiasm to come back and do it all over again.

I'll continue to drink the Kool-Aid until it burns more than the STD I picked up last year at the burn.
One question though.... Who raised the vehicle pass cost? NDOT? The org? A 100% increase seems pretty suspect to me.
Oh well...
Pass the purple drink..

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
My understanding is that Burning Man sets its prices on both tickets and vehicle passes. It's also not a 100% increase, as vehicle passes were $50 in 2015.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
I thought they were $40. That must have been the year before. I honestly don't remember (and didn't pay attention) to the vc prices, as it was part of my SITE team stipend.
It just seems odd that the price keeps jumping each year. My thought is that it's just another way to get moneys. Probably easier to shove that down our throat than keep raising ticket prices.
Pass the Kool-Aid please.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
The net increases don't seem very big, and it doesn't strike me as odd that they go up - the costs for a lot of things goes up every year <insert a "back in my day" gag here>. Scanning the wiki page, it looks like ticket prices have only stayed the same as a previous year 4-5 times since they started selling tickets in 1995. Maybe if we're lucky, the lift in vehicle pass prices will encourage more carpooling and more camps to use trucks for gear and mass transit for campmates.
I'm right there with you in line for the kool-aid, neither the NV tax thing nor the lift in ticket prices are dealbreakers for me. If I wasn't feeling it I'd take the year off (as I've done in the past)

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
That is exactly what I proposed, I'm not ignoring that problem.trilobyte wrote:or pony up the dough it would take for Burning Man to cancel the event (since BMan would still have significant contractual obligations and staff to pay).
Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
And the "taking a year off" may happen organically as even more tickets are offered to the group of people who can afford $1080 a piece (after tax) plus fees and vehicle pass. I would have preferred a straight ticket price increase across the board, even to the point of ending the presale program entirely. A better/fairer chance of getting a ticket is worth a bump to $440 for everyone rather than that high-roller bullshit.

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
Im still stuck on the price increase for vp. From 40 to 80 in there years? I agree you are right about cost increases, but my company has never had that steep an increase in such a short period of time. Something isn't what it seems, and I don't have the bandwidth to really care.
But be that as it may, I would pay a lot more for the opportunity to go every year. Granted I don't have to for various reasons, but nonetheless it's the best deal out there.
And I too hope the "cancel it for a year" people would stop with that. If it's no longer beneficial for you to attend, then simply don't go.
I am almost at the halfway point....in 6 months and about a week, I will be there!

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
The BLM will only allow so many vehicles. I don't believe a lousy $80 would convince many people to leave their truck full of art and supplies at home and hitch a ride in the back of someone's KIA with a tent and two gallons of water.
The scarcity of available passes will do that.
The price jump is touted as a deterrent but I don't think it'll be an effective one until it's $1000.

Easy now Captain, we don't want to give these bean-counters any bright ideas...But yeah, the price increases viewed as a percentage are quite steep. How much of that ransom money ever makes it to NDOT and how much gets spent on hookers and blow is completely anybody's guess at this point...
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: Ticket Increase Price Game February 2016 edition
Re the vehicle passes, the BMORG has a lot of private information we don't - how many VP sold and where by geo, how many VP arrived at the gate along with tickets sold in the same transaction, how many low income VP admitted a crew, how many VP were never used.
We need to face facts that 447 is never going to be widened unless the BMORG gains control of an entire state legislature or there is a massive multi-billion mining discovery near Gerlach, Elon Musk builds a space launch facility there,Tony Hsieh builds a shipping facility there or some other such millionaire business nonsense. It is a spur road to a part of the state that is losing population.
Me and the Capt commute from the North, so we are not part of the problem VPs are trying to solve.
I don't have any personal information on highway department blow and should-be-decriminalized-over-adult-age sex worker job creation.
(Oops, it looks like we are getting off track into subjects like will 447 ever be widened and sex work! Shame on me!
