Re: Permanent Staging area approval
It's one of a few that Burning Man has in the area. I'm glad to see the approval, hopefully that will mean they can expand the BRC storage program and reduce the waiting list (it was a year when my camp signed up a while back.

Yeah, the storage container thing is great for camps to keep most of their infrastructure there so they don't have to schlep it across the country every year. I just wish there was access to the containers while there so things can be fixed and inventoried.

Re: Permanent Staging area approval
I think the problem with year-round access is it quickly becomes a humongous mess (especially because 1/3 would want to get in their boxes over the summer, and at least half in the month running up to the event), as well as probably has some zoning and insurance implications (customers roaming around onsite).
That's where 3rd party storage providers in the surrounding area could come in handy. I've heard of a few, all varying degrees of more expensive. Some seem cheaper because there's no upfront purchase of a shipping container, but have higher monthly/annual costs plus transportation, and others just more because the greater transportation distance (to places like Reno, Carson, Sacramento) and storage facility costs. If I lived in Reno I'd definitely look into a Reno container storage solution, the higher cost would be well worth it to not only have year-round access but also for it to be nearby where we lived and could get supplies.

I imagine they stack the containers too so that would be a nightmare trying to allow access to every container all the time. It would be nice to allow access at least once per year though.
3rd party you always have to wonder if they'll be allowed in the gate or if they go out of business leaving your container stranded someplace.

Re: Permanent Staging area approval
I know people who store camp infrastructure in regular Reno storage sites. The negative is that they still need to load/ unload multiple times, but the Reno rates are so much cheaper than SF/ LA that it's worth it to them. They get up there a few days early, inventory & load, and good to go.

Many people like to criticize the BMORG, Larry, etc. This is the boring stuff they do, successfully and usually not publicized, to create your experience at the event. The ranch, where the containers are stored, including department containers, is the place where DPW and Playa Restoration operate to create your experience. Hugs and fucks to them!
