I can smell Bacon being cooked in prep for Burningman.
It's 12:30am.
I'm having trouble enough getting to sleep with the 5 million (ok, maybe 50) simultaneous lists going through my head of what to pack, shelter prep, food and hydration storage...
Is this what all of you experience as well?
Want some Bacon?

Yes, we experience that panic as well. I don't cook my bacon til I am on the playa, fresh is better in my book. I only have 3 million things left to do......

Giving this a nudge over to the food & drink board. I haven't started on any of my pre-cooking yet, but next week my place is going to be filled with wonderful smells :)

I made a hat out of raw bacon one year. I used a Larry hat for the base, covered it with raw bacon & put clear epoxy over it all. It was rather gross but lasted about 6 months before visibly spoiling. I think cooked bacon would have lasted longer.

This is correct. Why would you NOT want to be cooking fresh bacon on the playa?!!

I use the bacon grease to fry my potatoes in.....Also good for frying spam.

I precook them and separate them into individual packets of tin foil. About 3-4 slices each. I put some in my frozen stuffs cooler and some in my fresh foods ice chest. Just heat em up in the foil on the camp stove. Less mess and faster because there's shiny things out on playa that I need to see

Burros have bacon installed already. But Doin' the same.
Some bacon will be reheated, some for Bloody Marys, some for munchin' with a hard boiled egg.....

Some to lure sparkle ponies to moop my camp..... :wink:

One year we smoked bacon every morning & gave it out to people passing by the camp. It tasted great & the smell was wonderful. Honestly, I think even the vegans in our camp liked the smell. The only drawback was (it was our virgin year) & the generator we used to power the electric smoker was rather noisy (Never again). But a charcoal/wood smoker would work pretty good if you don't mind babysitting it & maintaining the temp. Bacon seems to bring people together. I've also taken a smoked bacon imperial porter homebrew twice & while not Bud Light, many found it's unique flavor very appealing. Not everyone likes smoked porters but most were willing to try a BACON beer.
