Canadian Camps Crossing the Border - best practices for entry

Post by mattycanz » Thu Jan 05, 2017 12:26 pm

Hello Burners!

Our Camp's build team transports bikes and bins of belongings for our Burners beforehand, but last year the US Border officer refused to allow us entry even though we had Form 3299 completed for each Burner, inventories on each bin, etc. Eventually they allowed us to cross if we submitted an invoice valuing all the goods we were carrying, but we narrowly avoided disaster.

Has anyone else had issues crossing the US Border with your camp's stuff? What does your camp do to prepare for crossing with unaccompanied goods? I would like to find out more about what the problem seems to be so we can share best practices for next year.

You've probably done as much as you can do as far as forms and such are concerned. Perhaps you could transport your stuff in multiple smaller quantities so that it doesn't appear like you're trying to bring in large amounts of goods for commercial purposes.
