ipods

Post by jbelson » Fri Dec 03, 2004 4:18 pm

Any one have an ipod? Specifically anyone have problems with it? Cause I do and the apple website is no help for this particular problem.

I have a 3rd generation ipod, 20 gig. It will mount on the desktop, but not in itunes or in the ipod updater. I'm running mac os 10.2.8, itunes 4.7.

I've tried other message boards but all I get are 2 other people saying they have the same problem.

If anyone here has any knowledge, I'd love to hear it, I'm getting desperate.

I had problems like that with mine and I rebooted it and now it is fine. Different models use different methods for this. You run a risk of loosing your tunes in the ipod but remember they are backed up on your computer and at least when I did it this was not a problem. Try this link:

That's about the extent of my knowledge. Good luck!

Are you getting an icon with a exclamation mark within a triangle when you boot your iPod?

other thing is to try a reboot by turning your unit on and then the two middle bottons ('menu' and > || ) at the same time until the unit cuts off. Start it again and place in cradle. That 'might' help it.

that's *always* helped with mine. also (of course) make sure that your keeping up with the updates. -- even tho' updates can cause probs sometimes before the engineers get other bugs are worked out.

On mine I think I had to toggle the "hold" button first, then press and hold the same buttons.

Fixed it. An it wasn't exactly easy.

First I verified then repaired the disk permissions.
Then I shut down, removed all the perifery cables, and the power cord. Waited a couple of minutes, then plugged everything back in. The ipod mounted immediately and even opened up Itunes.

What a pain in the fucking ass!!!

but it works.

Badger,

Just a reminder. This is the area to rip a newbe a new one for posting in the WRONG area. This should be under "General Discussion" me think? Are you going soft on us?

To get back on topic I wish to thank Badger for the tip on cleaning camelbacks. It worked great.

Not really. The folder/topic/whatever organization is so completely fucked I couldn't imagine giving anyone a de facto rip.

Actually, the forum is 'questions and advice'. I had a question, got some advice, so i think it slips right in there.

Pardon me for picking nits, but the topic is 'questions and advice' within the 'Black Rock City' forum. I'll be the first to admit that the organization can be screwy, but it's been said before that all things non-BM related should go into the General forum.

curmudgeonly yours,

AhhHaa.
But I have and will bring my ipod to the playa (although not stated but I figured people would figure it would end up there), so technically I'm good.

If this were a question about a generator without the playa mentioned, people would assume it was going there.
Unfortunately ipods havent yet earned the same respect. Ohhh, poor little ipod.

Besides, people in this forum are more on the technical savvy side. Those general discussion people...well, you know.

That was my de facto assumption.

Yet it's kind of snuck upon us that the usage of "Black Rock City" seems to have morphed beyond the Burning Man event itself, and could mean just about anything populated by marginally radical Sandalistas in various states of undress.

Before the last eplaya folder reorg, there were a few more topic options that would have been appropriate -- I would have preferred more specific topics rather than fewer, drawn from the topic areas covered on the main website and from the array of typical post subjects from the previous iterations of the eplaya. Now, though, anything posted to the General Digression area that didn't involve chatty free-association cruft would quickly get bumped down the thread list. With no options for sorting threads by name/subject/date/etc., a ham-fisted search engine, and guidelines geared more toward politeness than enabling usability, I wouldn't blame anyone for not being able to discern what's correct or what's going to incite the resident meanyheads.

Well said (the both of you).

Besides, there's an easy solution: "I was thinking of bringing my <insert_off_topic_object_here> to BM05 and I was wondering: does anyone have any <mods / fuzzy dice / anal-mount-holsters> for it?"

anal-mount holsters?

it's strapless and just requires a sledge hammer. easy to install. harder to uninstall.
