Ultra marathon
Anyone on here ever run the 50k hosted by Pink Lightning? Ran my first marathon earlier this year and am super excited to run an ultra.
Re: Ultra marathon
I know someone who has. The challenges are obvious: super dry weather, high altitude, potentially not enough sleep beforehand. They start in the early AM hours in order to not inflict heatstroke on each and every participant. You'll want plenty of water and electrolytes. They will provide water and snack tables at various waypoints, and you're supposed to bring water and a snack to contribute to the snack tables when you pick up your race number.
Not necessarily obvious: it's a very fun (by comparison) race with a relaxed party atmosphere the whole time, the denizens of Black Rock City will interact with the runners and offer refreshments, art cars may escort you playing their best mixes, you'll run through a party and then a few minutes later feel almost alone out in the dark and the stars.

Re: Ultra marathon
Mod note: moved to art and performance. While it seems an odd fit, it is actually the best for something happening specifically on the playa this year.
Re: Ultra marathon
Was on a firefly tour over the city and met a guy in his 60s who had run the ultra earlier that day and was then jumping out of our plane. I was blown away by this.
He said he only planned to run 15km but then he just decided to finish it. I think you should give it a go!
