Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man
Airplanes, boats, trains etc don’t have to hide their “base vehicle”, they aren’t cars.
If you set one on top of a car chassis, you have to fully hide or “mutate” that base car chassis.
The other biggie, the Christina, is sitting on a cement truck chassis.
That part is pretty well hidden but the boat part isn’t.
The 747 is not sitting on a car or truck chassis, there’s no base vehicle to hide.
I really don’t get all the hate over a Burning Man mutant vehicle built by some really cool people that weren’t paid millions - or anything at all - just because it’s big. That just made it a lot harder to do.
Who was negatively affected by it being there? Did it run over anyone?
Did it blast zillion-decibel music while driving through the back streets at 4 am? Did it have DJs promoting their next drop? Did it haul ass like there were no rules?
All those things have been done by other, popular MVs. I don’t think the 747 did any of that.
Seems the worst it did was not have enough time, room and volunteer staff to let as many people aboard as wanted to get aboard. And it did entertain more than any other MV ever has.
I just don’t get why you guys have to throw so much shit at it.
What did it or any of the crew do to you?

So did it go through the DMV line? I must have missed it.

It was physically too large to take through the line, but yes it did have to get a DMV MV license.

Was it not classified as mobile art?

So Cap’n, you saying I can get an old Cessna, sawzall the wings off and it’s an MV?
Not questioning the whole 747 as art thing, just the logic behind the MV thinking.

I'm really surprised that no figured out that it was the centerpiece for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 camp.

Some of the key builders of the plane are friends and even eplayans many of you know and like.
People who are super nice, work hard and really bring it to BRC.
Real burners who’ve been at it since before most of you ever heard of BRC. People that are as far away from being douchebags as it gets.
I suppose you think they just cut the wings off a plane with a sawzall and swiped a credit card and bam, all done and party time.

I concur. (for what that's worth)Token wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 12:22 pmArt is fucking art.
Taco Boy walking around the Playa with his junk in a taco was art.
Uchronia was art even tho it got used as a big-ass rave playground and a Lexus commercial.
The bleachers by The Goat Rodeo where the bullhorn heckled FKOs as they shoved their heads up a goat’s ass - fucking art!
No, Cameras, Photos, and DJz - not fucking art.
Once you get past the novelty of a 747 carcass as moop rubbernecking creampie, it is/was art, and for the most part it sucked.
Hey, I built a two story replica of a Humm-Vee way back when ... was that art? The tires on that thing were a fucking bitch!

In 1914, Marcel Duchamp exhibited an off the shelf, mass produced bottle rack and said, 'This is art because I say it is.'"

The creation of and playa display of the 747 Project is no different than the creation and display on the playa of the Temple except that the 747 might not have gotten money from Burning Man.
That's just art/life since 1914.
Accept it or be a curmudgeon.
Embrace it and be free.

I think it would have been more impressive if they had just built it and burned it like they did "Wall Street".

Those of you hating on the 747 and the people behind it should read the project lead's response over on Reddit.

Good read. I was expecting a Reddit comment from Yogi Berra saying no one saw it because it was too crowded. I like it, and would like it better if the wings were back on.... shade is a proven crowd pleaser.

I read that story too. I was wondering if any one had witnessed activity on the Playa that indicates they are moving it?

Next round of sat images will show it.The location will be a closely-guarded secret in order to keep vandals from visiting the project with spray paint cans, torque wrenches, or whatever other tools they’d use for mischief.
