Climbable Structures
Hello! Our camp wants to build a 16 foot structure intended for human interaction and we want to make sure we're submitting a complete application and abiding by any Nevada state-specific guidelines. We have the design and install/de-install plan, and are working on the bearing calculations and structure analysis. but would greatly appreciate any advice from people who have built a structure this large before.
Was there anything specific you included in your application to prove your structure was safe? Were there any Nevada state guidelines you reviewed when designing/building your structure?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Re: Climbable Structures
The state doesn’t do any inspections or review of structurals out there.
Just use sound construction practices, do your calculations, be ready to defend the design.
If there is a BORG department that is involved like placed art, you burning it down, etc. contact them directly and discuss.
BTW, 16 feet is not that big. Lots of stuff out there is way bigger.

I believe Mr Token is referring to the Artery. Their email is easily available. Better to contact them now rather than their crush times later. I believe they are taking an "if it can be climbed, it will be climbed" approach based on eliminating their own liability. So you might need to commodify your structure with some liability insurance and an LLC so someone who is injured doesn't commodify your personal assets. Also crash pads, something used in bouldering. And have a radio capable of contacting ESD. Maybe get some attorneys in your camp. Sad in a way.

Re: Climbable Structures
OP is super vague.
Could be art, could be a camp thing, who knows.
Is it wood, metal, plastic ...
Does it need to be anchored?
Is there a wind profile/loading concern?
Artery may or may not be the relevant entity.
If it’s a camp only thing, may be a fuck-all and just build it. Seen plenty 2-3 story scaffold structures out there, 100 foot towers and whatnot. Don’t think anyone asked for permission.

Re: Climbable Structures
Can you give us some pictures/drawings and materials so we check them out? There are some pretty experienced trouble shooters here.

It is so hard to get a permission in California, we had to apply 4 times for safety until we finally got approved
