Wondering about the procedure to volunteer to help with the cleanup of the Playa. Does one simply show up? Or is there someone to contact?

Seems this year that help would be most welcome.

Your neighbor can get somebody closer for a lot cheaper.

Thank you.

They're out there now with a chainsaw, and the neighbor is hauling his trash bin over to help get rid of a few slabs.

HI BB!!! good to seeya! thanks for the drink.
did any of that hurricane affect you? Looked like a lot of rain.
Cooling down here from summer.
I'm having to do a huge "clean up" around my property. Like so many around here, my home owners insurance of the past 26 years, dropped me, and now I'm scrambling to find new policies. Out here, it's (mostly in rural areas) a two policy deal. We have what's called the "Fair Plan" which is universal, state wide, fire and weather coverage, and then another policy, from another company, for everything else. The "Fair" plan, has huge premiums attached, of course.
And, the companies are now very picky about "stuff" on and around your property, so my agent advised me on a huge "clean up" before the inspector shows up.. ugh. My damn homeowners package in now 9600.00/yr!! about triple what I was paying 4 years ago. They are pricing people out of living in rural areas, which I sort of feel is a plan...

Hiya yg!

Yep, still here, cleaning and sorting and storing, under the delusion that it will all be more streamlined and organized next time around.

Fall is in the air here too, especially at night.

Hey, bar. Put on my first sweatshirt of the season.

Bvb, the delusion you refer to is universal, I believe. “How long is a piece of string?” is something my mother liked to ask about the likely unknowable. “How long will it take me to pack or unpack?” I’ve left some gear in my car over the years, and I think I’m ready for a quick weekender by just adding clothes, food and water. How that expands to hours and hours, multiple trips up and down stairs out to the car… I don’t know.

Feeling a little boost to activity from the season change. Some inspiration to turn to old old long ignored projects.

Hi Gang!
Yeah BVB the delusion is still in my memory... and unloading so many things I took, but didn't use "just in case"...To be fair, I always had a lot of room in my rigs, and my drive is only half a day, so I had that luxury.
Hi Elorrum!! ENECM is still working fine, thanks for that!
yeah, sweats here in the early morning, but beautiful daytime temps. Which, is nice considering the huge "clean up" project I'm in, hoping to pass inspection to get home owners insurance. ugh.
All the "stuff". I had a system, and knew where most everything was... now, stacked on pallets and in boxes and barrels, and mostly unsearchable...
A bonus, though, is finding a few things I had forgotten or lost track of.

With few exceptions, if I haven't seen it, touched it, or thought about it in a year, I don't need it and it can go.

works for some, for sure.
For me, I like the idea I can walk out of my shop, grab materials, and build or fix a thing. No need to drive to town, or order a new one, or do without. But, that takes "material".

How many times have I thrown something out a week before I needed it? It takes years for me. I’m just fixing something now that has sat unused for 9 years. I don’t have a lot of space, and try to avoid accumulation via pocketbook. I agree, ygmir. It’s nice to have what you need when you need it. I agree Figjam, I store stuff I’ll never use or even handle again, and it does feel good to clear things out.

I spent $.27ea. yesterday for some 5/32 #8 washers, holy crap! 89 cents for a little bag of 20 or so used to be expensive. I wandered into the small hardware store, I walk by a lot. 4 washers for a buck and change.
I thought of how many nuts and washers I’ve swept up and thrown away, they were too cheap to be bothered to pick them out of sawdust.

As we age, there are some things we'll just not get around to doing or loose the ability.

I've done clean outs for dead relatives that took ages because of the accumulation.

I guess I don't want to leave that job for somebody else to do.

And it does simplify things.

and therein lies the beauty of life and free will: "you do you, Boo".
I agree, there are things I'll never get around to, and materials associated. And yeah, been thinning them down as the years pass. Big projects that now, just don't seem worth the effort. I just wish I knew a person who wanted some of this stuff, and could make use of it. Sorta sad to see it end up being scrapped, when some of the "parts" are very useful and valuable, to the person needing them. Bummer is, I'm misanthropic enough, I don't want to have a "yard sale" so that people might find the treasures. I tried a yard sale, once, years ago....ended up telling everyone "we're done, go home" and found a person who would haul everything off, if they'd take "it all" for free......and of course, he left me with two pickup loads of stuff he never came back for, as promised.

I like my stuff. As long as it isn’t in my way, it’s not too much. I got rid of so much in my last move, from having a garage, to get it all in an apt. Just by cu. footage, If someone needed to deal with it all, I think a couple people, with a dump truck, and it could be handled in half a day. I don’t have any family to burden.

ygmir, I remember you showing me your memorial carving system, how old is it? Museum quality tech. if it can’t be utilized.

I got a deal on an 8 lb turkey breast and a sack of potatoes yesterday. The $2 stalk of celery, and $2.79 can of cranberries, did sting, but I think I can come up with a decent buffet in the bar tomorrow if it thaws.

HI Elorrum. yeah, stuff.
Sad thing is, I have a lot of "things", including my memorial carving stuff, that are very old, and archaic. Also blacksmithing and mining tools and equipment, that no one would probably care about, in general, and no real way of finding those who might.
the other issue is dealing with "the public". I don't want to put up an ad and have all sorts of people wandering in, out, and around.
ah well, I'm sure it'll work itself out.

You wouldn't have to deal with a lot of people and items would go to someone who appreciates them.

Hi Elorrum!! sounds like a fun project. What are you doing? Post photos? here, or in the (I now forget the exact name) "what are you working on" thread? that used to be a fun one..
Yeah, Popeye, that's an idea. Finding said museum might be a thing. There are several around here, but pretty complete. I guess I could ask around, though.
I cut some "cookies" on my bandsaw sawmill the other day, going to make some end tables. Sawmilling is fun, when you don't have to do it every day.

I was only there for 5 days 😢. I had a shingles attack by my left eye/side cheekbone! Lost all the vision in my left eye for 5 days. My son Adam was there so he drove me home Friday before the rains came. I spent the next week on the couch recovering. It took about another 4 weeks for it to totally clear.

It was awful and I was super sad to have to leave.
