Playa-slaughter?
How about Mongolian goat?
You sew one animal inside another inside another. The flavors combine to create flavor that doesn't exist normally. I suggest rabbit inside lamb inside goat inside deer.
After two days of smelling that roasting on an open fire, the peta folks will be in line first.
Just don't go into the kitchen during the prep unless you want a bizarre memory. I still can't forget that cute girl up to her elbows and that fifteen foot pole!
If you do it, let me know. I'll be there.
You know, long pig would be appropriate for burning man. How about burn night yahoos toasted by the Flaming Lotus chicks? I bet they could even get a volunteer.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

Here it is. http://www.churchofeuthanasia.org/e-ser ... tcher.html
All you ever wanted to know about prepping the dogs best friend.
Eating and smelling goat can make you a vegetarian. It's nasty if it's not young or at least well grained for 2 weeks before devouring.
Burning Man has a ring to it. Cooking Man sounds like Julia Childs in drag.
I vote for no name change.

Pigs are somewhat difficult to slaughter and prepare for eating. First of all is the damned hair on the things. Hogs are generally not skinned, they are scalded and the hair scraped off. Hogs also tend to have a serious involuntary flailing when killed, like chickens can do. It gets blood and stuff everywhere. Then there are things such as properly bleeding it out and allowing the carcass to cool.
A different animal might be easier such as a lamb or a calf. Even so, preparing these animals after slaughter takes considerable amounts of water. After skinning and gutting the animals are generally hung and washed.
A better idea, in my opinion, would be buying a roasting pig already prepared and possibly making some "guts" with pasta and beet juice or something and have a fake slaughtering.

I believe Gigsville did something like you propose. They brought a live piglet to camp once, everyone made friends with it, and come The Day took it offsite to be slaughtered. Came back with the carcase and had a big happy barbecue.
Having roasted a whole suckling pig out there, I can say it'll take you a whole day to cook something in the 50-pound size range. You'll need a BIG barbecue pit and roasting spit. A roasting pit in-ground would probably have every Earth Guardian, DPW and "leave-no-trace" follower on your ass like Cotton Mather. And I would suggest lamb or young, like less than a month old, female goat. Do it Kobe-style, feed it beer (good beer) and massage it every day.

Admit nothing!!!! homo Sapiens is an omnivore that needs protein. You can get it from non-meat sources, but it's more difficult and not very tasty. It's simple, people eat tasty animals. Sure it causes colon and prostate cancer, but neither we nor that tasty looking heifer are going to last forever. If that 4 legged beefsteak isn't aware of mortality, what does it matter if it lives 2 years or 16 years?
I'm sure that all the arguments have already been presented ad nauseum.

Direct from my GE specialist upon my diagnosis: "It has nothing to do with your diet. It's genetic."
Anyone who knows me knows I eat healthy. I'll pass up a hamburger for grilled salmon any day of the week, I pop baby carrots and honey straws like candy; yoghurt, smoothies, garlic, apples, tea and juice. I subbed out refined sugar for honey years ago. I only drink soda if I don't have a choice and if given a choice of soda I'll pick lemonade (at least that has citrus in it).
In fact, my doctors have me on a low-fibre, high protein diet right now. My diet guidelines actually tell me to keep my calories up; chemo and radiation hammer the body and it needs a lot of fuel to fight. A high-fat diet contributes to colon cancer but meat ≠ fat. There are meats with very little fat, such as fish and white meat chicken, but also venison, turkey, ostrich, and yes, even some cuts of pork and beef (though not as good as the others). There are also ways of cooking meat that reduces the fat content, such as rotisserie and grilling. My dietician told me to avoid fried and smoked foods and high fibre, but that's it.

I was out burning pine needles, but here's what I found.
http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/inofanprotme.html
"Gompertzian analysis suggests that rising mortality from prostate cancer may be related to rapidly changing lifestyles among Japanese. Intake of animal proteins was the most strongly correlated parameter considered with the mortality from prostate cancer."
http://www.vernoncoleman.com/pc.htm
Studies in 41 countries have shown a high correlation between mortality from prostate cancer and intake of fats, milk and meats (especially beef).
http://www.newstarget.com/007237.html
A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows a doubling of the risk of colon cancer for people who are heavy consumers of red meat. More specifically, it shows that the risk doubles compared to those who consume smaller quantities of red meat.

I try to put as little trust in mainstream doctors as I can. I do my own research. I may not learn enough, but it can never hurt,,,up to the point that I try to treat myself.
I went into a hospital[county] once with a crushed foot, broken leg and broken ankle. The doctor gave me aspirin with codeine and told me to stand on the broken leg to set the bones. Some years before, I had become resigned to the idea that pain was going to be a part of my life,,,so I did what he told me. Another doctor who happened to walk by and saw us,,,rushed in and demanded to know what he was doing and to STOP!! I was close to passing out so it was easy to comply. He kicked out the first doctor and gave me demerol.
Another visit to a hospital [expensive] for retinal reattachment resulted in a trashed eye. They made the incision and then discovered that they didn't have the instruments that were necessary. They let me lie there, incised for hours til my eye went cataract. OOPPS.
http://www.quackpotwatch.org/opinionpie ... ystem2.htm
"It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. The total number of iatrogenic deaths shown ... is 783,936. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate, 553,251.".
Diane, I would definitely investigate all the procedures that they plan to do.
Rob the WOP, I'm still looking for cites,,,,"cigar in ass" causing colon cancer.

Colons and cancer
I have seen the research that draws a comparison between 'excess' red meat usage and an increase in cancer.
This is a far, far cry from that statement that red meat is the cause of cancer.

I would also inquire as to the KIND of red meat consumed. Did it come from a feedlot where they fed 'em trash, animal parts and fillers, or was it organic? What's the fat content? Was it fried hamburger or top round or sirloin, grilled?
If you pound down a Big Mac or Whopper every day like most people in this society do, hell yes you're going to get sick. But if you limit your beef intake to a sirloin or other lean cut once every one or two weeks, like I did, and eventually phase it out in favour of venison, buffalo or ostrich, which are all higher in protein and iron and lower in cholesterol, there are no numbers on that.
BTW, I just downed a banana and some rice for lunch.
Afterthought edit: The prevalence of cancer is getting higher across the boards and there are other factors besides diet that are major contributors to this upswing. The "meat is cancer" is just an animal rights spin — what they're ignoring is that we're surrounded by carcinogens. There's formaldehyde in building insulation, everywhere you go you encounter smokers and secondhand smoke, which is the #2 cause of lung cancer (which, incidentally, is the #1 cancer killer, period).
There are dioxins, PCBs in the water, our house water flows through PVC piping which has been linked to cancer; hormone replacement therapy gave us Premarin and Prempro, prescription drugs that have been designated carcinogens and positively connected with heart embolism, stroke, Alzheimer's, three kinds of cancer including breast cancer (again). Teflon is a carcinogen; so was saccharin. A whole generation used Teflon and saccharin; every woman who's had a hysterectomy since the '50s was on Prempro or Premarin.
Again, cancer is NOT what you eat. It's coming from the environment. So let's quit with the PeTA party line and DO something to get rid of all this shit we're poisoning ourselves with. (One thing you can do immediately: Stop Smoking, god dammit)

After Philosopher did his post I did a quick reply. I mentioned quickly that meat consumption causes cancer. In the context of my earlier post, there was no reason to quantify HOW MUCH meat causes cancer. My posts tend to run long anyway and I have no intention of belaboring the point.
Rob, I have no interest in splitting semantic hairs. I'm not that bored.
Diane, there are innumerable studies that show a 100 % correlation between consuming ANIMAL protein/fat and contracting coleorectal cancer.
JAMA is actually quite conservative.
You can dispute the research all you want. You can bemoan the quality of Kobe beef [Japanese studies]. That's your prerogative. I eat animals and don't give a shit what PETA says.
My personal decision is to limit red meat consumption.
There is also genetic predisposition and other factors that affect the genisis and the outcome of cancer, obviously.
We encounter pathogens, carcinogens and toxins every day. Obviously most of them are found in the skin and respiratory system.
The ones that enter the GI system have to get past our friendly bacteria. After that they have difficulty getting past the intestinal wall. Toxins on the other hand can be absorbed in many areas. Most toxins go straight to the liver. Many are excreted. The bulk of what enters our gut is food, it stands to reason that food will have the greatest effect.
http://www.13.waisays.com/cancer.htm
Back in the 1800s, they discovered that eating 1 type of eel caused cancer. Ever since then, they have been adding to the list.
Diet is all important for many types of cancer.
http://www.dailytargum.com/media/paper1 ... 5104.shtml
This site would only let me in 1 time. It said that 30% of cancers are caused by food.
I've smoked 1 1/2 cigs in my whole life and ate 4--5 big macks.

Given the choice, I'll eat Bison, Elk and Alaskan king crab.
I've eaten a lot of things. I went on a camping trip from London to Kathmandu. Sometimes we ate mystery meat. You had no clue of it's origin or demise. That's why Indian food is so spicy. Camoflage. It's a guessing game wether it hopped , crawled, slithered or walked.
57% of the people in Varanasi have gastroenteritis. I got "Delhi Belly" in Kashmir. Avian, simian, reptilian, mammalian and aquatic,,,I'm an omnivore when I'm hungry enough.
