Sweet! Thanks homebird.
sip sip
So Sput, you must have an on-playa recruiting plan. There must be a way to lite a flame on the playa so this thing spreads like a fire. I remember when you posted the satellite photo of BRC. It was very inspiring. Some kind of pyramid scheme maybe. "Get 10 people involved and you can win a chance join Sputnik in orbit!"

Yeah, maybe someone can dip megapixl sheets if ya know what I mean.

Hey Tiz!

Well, I entered the contest for the Mile High Club. Maybe if I can win I can give that away.
It's going to be alright.

Can I take one of those blue drinks with me as I wander back to catch up on the thread? Feels so good to be back with you all. Thanks - back in a few.

I guess you'll be doubly lucky if you do win.
How is this going to work? Is there a specific time involved? Like a satellite flyover time? or is it more of a permanent installation?
Seriously, I have a brilliant jack and coke plus a default ale (Anderson valley ESB aka Belk's bitter, for anyone taking notes) here in front me. I might be able to help.

There are at least two satellites that will take photos. My understanding from talking with a guy at google earth is that they have scheduled the Ikonos satellite to take photos whenever it's over the event: Monday, thursday and sunday. There is another satellite, quickbird, that another company has access to (DigitalGlobe). He suspects that they will take photos as well. Not sure of the days. He says that both sats have the same camera gear, but that their's flys higher and so gives a more stable image, while the other flys lower and so has marginally higher resolution.

So this will be a permanent installation starting as soon as possible and continuing through Sunday around noon. Then the thing has to get taken down ASAP because I have to be on a plane Monday in the early afternoon.
It's going to be alright.

With cutting out the background we got it down to 5400. At minimum we need to make the head and hand and a bit of flame (the 2500 number). There has been some conversation with the folks who are doing the Chinese Dragon about incorporating their pieces into the flame, but I'm not sure it's going to work out.
Whats the Chinese dragon? someone copy your idea?

They're trying to make a 2 mile long Chinese Dragon. I wouldn't say they copied my idea. But it does use a lot of fabric too.
It's going to be alright.

They have a major design problem! They expect everyone to have the same union thread? different manufactuers use different threads on those plastic unions...ouch

But X should love the thousands of hula hoops at the burn this year!

So Sput, if I understand it correctly, pixels will go on top of vehicles, tents, open playa or intallations. Any given participant can potentially handle hundreds of pixels. It's all about deployment. Is that right?

Pixels will go on the playa in a predefined area. But yes, I do have single participants signed up for up to 100. They'll show up at the installation sometime before thursday and we'll lay them out and tack them down to the ground where they go.
It's going to be alright.
