Doing well, TITWI, thanks. Just writing a few letters and popping in here once in a while. Gotta sign off, though - my steeds will soon be mice and that glass slipper still doesn't fit. Good night.

Anyone around?

I'm freaking out. I think I just heard someone try to come in our front window, so my heart is pounding... the one night I don't take my cell phone to bed is the night I'm quaking in terror that there's someone in the next room where my phone is... but still I couldn't decide whether to yell out to my roomies or not... finally braved getting up, and the house is empty, but I don't feel calm yet.. and if I went outside and saw footprints by the window I'd call the police, but I don't want to go outside...

=(

when in doubt yell, turn on all the lights inside and out, call the cops, call the neighbors.

today go to a marine store and buy a small personal fog horn for about $20.00 ....It will get attention. .....along with some mace.

get your camera ready....flash the window if you hear it again......dude will think he's been photo'd... will leave

boogiemen work at night because they don't want to be seen, so do everything possible to call attention

edit: don't go outside

I'm up.. no footprints outside, no explanation.. managed to get back to sleep after a while (posting to friends is about half as good as calling.. but it still helps, thanks for being here!).

And, good advice, ED, thanks.. my first step will be NOT leaving my phone in the living room anymore!

Still lightly rattled, but at least I didn't have nightmares when I went back to bed...

(wanders in to grab a coffee)

Glad to see that all is well, Xta. Got this email earlier today and thought it timely...

"How to install a wireless security system:

1. Go to a secondhand store, buy a pair of men's used work boots, a really BIG pair.

2. Put the boots outside your front door on top of a copy of "Guns and Ammo" magazine.

3. Put a dog dish beside it. A really big dish.

4. Leave a note on your front door that says something like this:
"Bubba, big Mike and I have gone to get more ammunition & beer. Back in 1/2 an hour. Don't disturb the Pit bulls - They've just been wormed."

Those mini airhorns are something we use at the pool all the time.. when waterpolo practice is in and the refs are blowing whistles all the time, we use airhorns as the guards' emergency signal for "I'm going in, help!"

Nice, LCN :)

LOL, Jewel, I DID get woken up by a phone call.. from my friend/slumlord/landlord who saw my MSN name changed to "who the hell is trying to get in at 2:30am!!" so he called to check on me...

Did YOU get an early morning phone call from someone, perchance?

No, but I made one.........

I'm hoping my dog would bark wildly, as she does when people approach the house, but she sleeps in a crate.......I know, I know.....but she likes it and doesn't pee on the dining room rug when she's in there.

Guns and ammo magazine. Good idea. Some years ago Hanguns Inc. gave out window sticker to their members that said "There are no guns in this house". Guess what happened?

You guessed it. Those houses with the stickers had a huge increase in break-ins. I bet the houses without the stickers had fewer break ins.
Hmmm... maybe they sould give those stickers in my area. :) :)

Good Morning Barflys! Xta - glad your'e ok. ED - I LOVE THE AIRHORN IDEA.

I occasionally do some work that requires a little extra attention to security - I'm definately going to use that one. The best tip I've ever had is to always have a camera in the glove box of my car. Its turned out to be the best "weapon" I could carry.

I'm also going to use it on my sons when they are making too much noise in the wee hours of the morning. THANKS for the inspiration!!!!!!
