Hiya, Paul here from Ireland.
Flight already booked and burning man ticket gonna be bought Monday.
Really can't wait, have been hearing about BM for some time now.
As you can guess, i'm a first timer to BM.
Have been looking into renting a motor home.
Not sure though if this is the best way to experience BM. 8)
Any opinions on this ?
Cheers,
Paul.

It's very late to organize a rental at this time. They book up months, maybe even the year in advance. And a lot of places will not rent to people going to the burn.
Some people find that having a haven with all the modcons gives them a needed anchor to their experience, others prefer to get out and get completely into the bm experience. Use the search function to read threads where it's hashed out.

Hi Paul.
It might be difficult to fly in and rent an RV near the event.
Not many places are open to putting their rentals into the harsh desert atmosphere without large security deposits and such. You might look around eplaya and try to hook up with others and "share" expenses with someone who already has an RV or camp with room to share.
good luck on your adventure...

There is a ride board on the main site (burningman.com) http://www.burningman.com/calendar/year ... hp?id=2031 that you can post and search on. There's also the possiblity that you can find a ride while you are in Reno. Hageymon will probably post about whatever system he has set up this year later this summer. (He can't do a rideshare out of his house, neighbors.)
Finding a theme camp this late may be hard, but if you poke around on the board you might find some that are recruiting. You might also try http://www.burningman.com/themecamps/06 ... ill_a.html looking at the list and seeing if there's some where you want to camp and ask the contact on the list, but they may not be looking. YOu can camp by yourselves, and chances are you will become friendly with the neighbors and watch out for each other and have a perfectly good time without the stress and bother and expence of helping to run a camp.

Hi, Im kiwisam - a NZ kiwi here for 25 yrs and now owing some alleigance to uncle sam. I live in the SF bay area and retired 2 years ago as lead electrician at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Ive finished a bit of the honeydoo list and will leave her behind and take a week in Black Rock City 'cos she doesn't like the desert (or heat anywhere for that matter). I've done satge lighting, set building and stage management - but not for a while so Burning man looks like a fun place to brush up on what's new in perfoming art - and to try to add a gifting experience to my life. I've made massage a part of my life for 50 years - since I was 17 - an can do a fair deep tissue massage. I'm an atheist and am enjoying palaces where I can help people.

Hello out there. My name is Chris.
2006 will be my first venture into the world of Burning Man. One of my friends may or may not be coming, dending on getting the week off. I'm in good ole Portland OR. so the trek won't be all that far. If I fail to get a ride with someone I may attempt the use of the Green Tort.
I've read near everything I could find on Burning Man and even had some helpful tips from a co-worker who went in 2005. Now I'm looking at the volunteer side to find something that peeks my interest to possible give a couple days of my time to while in the fuzzy warm desert.

Good for you on the reading everything you can find I.P. Read and reread… and the coworker will help with advice too.
kiwisam… glad you found your way after all this time.
Though you’ll have a lot of catching up to do in it, there’s a lively discussion going on here that you may be interested in:

Hello there!! So it turns out that I'm 36 years old and still a virgin... But not for much longer now! :) I'm going to travel all the way from Sweden to meet you all. It all started about two years ago when I saw some pictures from BM on the internet. I read a little about it, and I imediately knew I had to be there. I can't really explain why. Maybe it apelled somehow to my deep longing for inner freedom and letting go. I have tried to persuade some friends to go with me, but with poor result. But what the heck, such things can't stop me from doing what I want, so now I'm going there solo.
I try not to have to many expectations. That's difficult, but I will try to just go with the flow, do the best of every moment and see what happens. Still I'm a little nervous about going there all alone. I'm kind and open-minded, but maybe not the most outgoing person in the world, and I wonder if it will be easy to make friends? I have arranged a ride to BM from Reno, but in case that arrangment should fail somehow, do you know there are any chances getting a ride from Reno?
Feel free to contact me if you have advices, want to hang out with a lost swedish guy on the playa, or if you also are a lost BM virgin, maybe we can explore together.
Take care!

Typically, if you can meet a burner in Reno with extra room, you can find a ride.Navigator wrote: I have arranged a ride to BM from Reno, but in case that arrangment should fail somehow, do you know there are any chances getting a ride from Reno?
Fred Hageymon, who runs the International Burner Hostel tries to set up an informal ride share system from Reno everyyear. Unfortunately high traffic caused friction with the neighbors, so he can't operate out of his house any more. When he figures out where he can set up a pick up place, I"m sure he will. Otherwise you can hang out outside a Reno Grocery, Camping, Box or Surplus store and find burners. then ask. I hope someone has a better idea of which ones are burner-friendly. Also, be respectful of the merchants. NO need to make the event extra enemies.

Hey there. I'm Klitsy otherwise known as Zach. I recently turned 18 and have gone to the "Burning Man Event" for the past two years. I just got back from the 4th of Juplaya where I had a blast. Last week I got a tattoo of the burning man logo on my back. Nothing fancy, but it has great meaning to me. I live in Sparks, Nevada. As you see I don't have to travel far to the Black Rock Desert. This year I graduated high school and plan to major in business. Currently I am a Supervisor at UPS (United Parcel Service). The youngest Supervisor at UPS I might add. I work hard all year and take vaction to go on the playa in August for this crazy thing called Burning Man. You must be nuts to live in the desert with thousands of interesting people with interesting art to see!!! Well that's all I have for you in this post, however I would love to talk further with you over private messaging or email. Myspace is also ok with me.
Love,
Klits with a k

*My Name Is Karalyn, an energy absorbant creature of this mother earth, & how I am so lucky to have been given this amazingly beautiful oppertunity to experience such an awakening this year with such beautiful souls...I have been called to come help create, contribute, share and care...grow, feel and flow through such an important experience in life to see, in this generation of ours. I am seeking some guidence, individuals willing to share their words of wisdome, their love and gratitude and adivce about how to prepare...most of all people to reach out to. I am new to the SF bay area, originating from NJ/Ny area...and this will be indeed my first burningman experience. Ive crossed paths with this amazingly beautiful soul Anabel, a guider, wanderer and life long teacher...and how I am so grateful of her prescence. Her and I will come together to find our ways out to Black Rock city this year, and this will be her 6th yr. She has the experience...=} We are looking and seeking, internally, mentally, physicially and emotionally reaching out to individuals that could perhaps exchange their grace for gratitude by meeting individuals that would be willing to share with us part of their travel experience there by ride sharing there and formost, finding a cozy and comfy camp all in all to contribute to and loose ourselves in. I know and have high hopes that finding people there to learn and grow from will be radiating everywhere...you can learn and grow from all...but it is always to be a bit more prepared, and being that she has experienced this beauty of Burningman...I want to make this one of her most memorable, as for who ever or whomever we happen to cross paths with. If anyone that would be willing to lend a helping hand or sounds or knows anyone that perhaps could help us with any of this, it would be gratefully and extremly appreciated. We are still looking for tickets aswell, for a decent price, being that we are looking to save more for the costume and camp budget. Sharing is caring...Im very much ready and willing to give and grow. Let this years Burningman of 06' agknowledge all of what the future holds...the unexpected, a new beginning...and chance of rebirth...life. Thanks alot for reading, Yours .::*Karalyn*::.
