Body art

Post by sunn » Mon Jul 17, 2006 9:18 am

Advice please on body paint which is playa friendly....dust resistant yet easily washed off? It will have to cover me all over in purple and gold so I need it to come off easily.

Also, are some henna products better than others?

On henna, I assume you know it's a stain for the skin and doesn't wash off? It'll stay for days, maybe a week or two, depending on application.

Whatever you do do not use liquid latex if you want it to come off easily. I was painted as a zebra in the beginning of the week last year and was still painted partially as a zebra at the end of the week. It looks amazing, but hurts a lot to take off.

However, there is a powder that you can buy that you apply first to any type of regular body paint and then add the paint on top of it and it will stay on. Also adding glitter dust to your paint after you put it molds it and it won't rub off. Good luck!

I've wanted to use the liquid latex for body paint also.. My understanding is that it will "permanently" attach itself to any hair that is over about 1/8" long.

When you peel the latex off, the hair comes with it....ouch; so shave first..either way you end up smooth.

Did the latex stick to itself? how difficult to get on even? How hot was it in the sun? I would think a person would end up hot with that on....(both kinds of "hot") :D

E-dude, I hade the liquid latex error my first burn, did lepard thing on my unshaven body. hurt like a son-o-bithie taken it off (the girl I was with thought latex pasties on my hairy nips would be cool! WRONG!!!!) wasn't hot via desert heat. I would do it again only after a good work out with my razor!

Still laugh when I look at the picture

EspressoDude, liquid latex will stick to itself, you generally will want to treat it with either "star dust" (gives it a metallic sheen) or shiny coating (which gives it the glossy wet look). The places that sell liquid latex usually also have the finishing stuff. Deviant makes a sampler kit that I think sells for around $35 that includes a bunch of different colors, foam brushes for applying, and the finisher. But yeah, you want to make sure that whatever you cover in liquid latex is shaved first, if not smooth than close to it.

Oh wait, back on topic, I have some info about body paints that I got from another thread here or on tribe....

Snazaroo Highly recommended line of body paints (recommendations are from ppl who have experience painting on the playa)
Wolfe Brothers Another highly recommended brand of body paints (recommended by Hollywood makeup pros)
Deviant makers of liquid latex

Hope that helps!

Can't wait to try the tips out...thank you! ...think I'll stay away from latex, ouch...
I'm planning to do purple all over one day but don't want to be purple all week! I noticed on the playa calendar as well there is at least one body painting camp and other henna gifters to visit.

I am exploring more this year, last year was my first burn....this year I want to be more creative and artistic :)

AVOID BLACK HENNA. and any henna colored - the paste should be dark greenish-brown/brown, and the stain should be orange/brown. the other stuff has a chemical (PPD) which can cause a severe allergic reaction, not something you want ever, but especially on the playa!!!

http://www.hennapage.com/henna/ppd/index.html

the stuff in the import stores? stinks for body art (it's ok for hair). only get body art quality online, i only use suppliers listed on hennapage.com because they are all reliable and there are no hidden ingredients or PPD in their stuff. there are also some good suppliers on hennatribe.com
