Sure, BC, love one!
No, I didn't get the invite. See if you guys can come to Italy next year... THAT'LL show ya! )giggles(
And my ex and I used to live maybe 1/4 mile from that Fire thing - should call and see how things are... not! (Shoulda aimed that ICBM a bit better... damn!) The pix I saw reminded me of Uchronia.
The billboard - Wierd. Reminds me of something you'd see outside of a casino. Actually, will put them out of business - no traffic on 80 at night and it lights up the road. Seriously. I can't wait to see if it gets revoked as a distraction. Some hotshot lawyer making an accident claim will work that angle, you betcha.

Serramonte Center has a video marquee right along 280. As $DEITY is my witness, I could see it from Stonestown Mall. (that's a 5 mile distance for you out-of-towners) Not legibly, but when I was commuting that stretch at 0400 every day, I got to where I could recognize the color combinations from that distance.
There's another one at the office complex that used to be the Circle Star Theatre on 101 at the Redwood City/San Carlos border. That one actually has different day/night settings (brighter in daytime so the colors don't wash out - I was actually driving past it one morning when it shifted).

Anything purple is mine. Anything else can be dyed or painted.

Does anyone know what those are? Giant flatscreen? Because it's beyond the little pixelated light tech that I'm familier with...

Mozy, you could have given us more warning/time to get a good seat!
Well, spent this morning talking to Schneider National and then filled out an on-line application form. Might as well see if I can qualify for driving a truck. I haven't tried anything like this before so we will see how it goes. (At least it might help get me out of debt, I hope.)
Well, lets see what I can find behind the bar... cat hair, fish food, some dirty glasses...!

Who set up the production line?!
(Grabs a beer and starts drinking.)

Here's the plan: you certify to drive a truck and in late August, be certain to request time off in Reno to "see your family." Save up days by working like a dog if you must beforehand. Since you're away from home during your time-of, the truck stays with you. Bob-tail out to burning man. Camp in your truck. I'll give you a damn ticket if you need one. You'll have to let us know if the loss of the trestle causes some sort of ripple effect in trucking.
The news coverage has been really odd, focusing on AmTrak. I think that's 2 trains a day.
It's Union Pacific and Contianer ships are already being diverted from Long Beach and Los Angeles to Oakland so that it's impacting the roads here. I don't know how much more they can take. Is it going to end up going through Seattle? Or is there another feasible rail route.
Yes, I'm morphing into a wonkfish.

I'd have had to heard the news ... I've been sleeping most of the day. All depends on what the route is, if there's no alternates, then yeah, it can affect trucking. Through Seattle? That sucks, there's no truckstops in Seattle, not very central to interstates (I-10, I-15, I-80, I-5). And there aren't many rail choices, you can't just roll up and throw a container on a train, you have to have the specialized cranes.
The roads will be fine, if they're designated truck routes, they're engineered for the weight. You'd be surprised how many big rigs roll through the bay area when everyone is deep asleep.
Found it. 50 freight trains a day? That's a lot of freight. I'd have to ask larry if he knows where the other UP lines run.

50 a day!
so far what I've seen on the media is about hte amtrack. Which is silly, no one rides amtrack! (I do, point proven.) Some of those trains are over 100 cars, I've counted them coming out of Oakland. This si going to be huge if there aren't alternate routes.
It's really wierd to anticipate something before it's in the news. Wierder to be readin the news and going--But, but what about that GIANT Elephant you're not talking about.
No wonder I'm cynical.

Well, I still need to do a telephone interview type thing on Monday, and then actually get through training, but, assuming all goes well, the plan IS to try for some time off at the end of August. (Even if I wind up with a different gig that's the hoped for plan.)AntiM wrote:Here's the plan: you certify to drive a truck and in late August, be certain to request time off in Reno to "see your family." They managed to call me at the only time during the day I was away. I'd gone out for a walk and to buy some steel toed boots (for a temp to hire job I'm in a waiting list for). I was standing on the sidewalk next to highway 12 when my cell phone went off. Since I forgot I had a pen, and didn't have anything to write on in any event (actually, I could have used my arm or something-- I've done it before), we decided to have her call back at 9 Monday morning.
Hopefully see you in August!
Woo-hoo!
