Choosing a place for the camp

Post by Jane785 » Thu Aug 16, 2007 6:29 am

Hi!

Could somebody please advise how a group [a group of people who has just arrived to the site in a big car] finally ends up on some camping/parking place? Who determines / indicates / approves it?

Avoid areas marked with double survey flags (theme camp boundaries) and areas that are shaded on the map. When in doubt, ask the neighbors. If convenient, park out in the hinterlands temporarily and send emissaries on bike or foot to scout for appropriate spots- Try to avoid just car cruising back and forth. If you're planning to arrive early in the week there shouldn't be any problems finding SOMEWHERE to camp, and possibly upgrade if necessary. If you arrive at night it's best to cool it until dawn unless you're VERY confident about where you are, where you want to be and what's up with those camping around you.
....And try as hard as you can to park DIRECTLY above the center of the Earth.

You do. To an extent. You will receive a map at the gate, although the general map is available now. The blue areas, light and dark, are reserved for theme camps and villages. Do not camp in those areas, and they will be marked. Somewhat.

If you arrive after dark, stay in the overnight parking, and start looking around at first light, either on foot or by bike. Don't drive around just looking for a spor, send scouts. Find an openish area, chat up the neighbors and see if that's a good spot for you. Don't worry about being "close" in to the middle, outskirts are fine and friendly too. The ends of the city (10 and 2) are where the large sound installations reside, so if quiet is your thing, those are perhaps not the perfect spots for you.

That's a start.

take a tape measure.

measure the speakers of the camp youre considering camping next to.

If the speakers are over 5' tall, camp somewhere else.
