How many people were killed at this year's event?

Post by Guest » Wed Dec 03, 2003 11:58 am

I know some chick was squished by an art car (how ironic!) and that at least one person was killed in a plane crash. How many other Burning Man groupies met their maker this year?

Regardless of biased opinions on the subject, the only count that matters is the one recorded by the BLM / State of Nevada / Pershing County Sheriff's Department: 1.

One too many and one too few. That "chick" had a name. Trouble yourself to learn it.

Deaths

Post by stopbmorg » Fri Jan 09, 2004 11:09 am

Because the plane crashed outside of the event boundaries, the death isn't counted as a BM death. Seems odd, but whatever keeps the insurance companies happy, I guess. After all without them, Burning Man probably wouldn't exist as we now know it. Curious, that.

There were 2 plane crashes at BM03 though, but I think one of them involved only injuries and luckily no fatalities. The NTSB web site has more information on the crashes, causes, deaths/injuries and the type of craft involved and the location of the crash.

Also a well-crafted Freedom of Information Act request to the Depoartment of Intertior, Bureau of Land Management, can get you many records and good information about the behind-the-scenes nonsense that goes on with the BM-BLM collaboration.

As would volunteering your time to the project if so inclined and see first hand how this 'collaboration' is hammered out throughout the year with a good deal of discussion, compromise, negotiation, building of trust, accepting of differences and a general good faith attempt to acknowledge each other's needs and positions.

Dollar signs

Post by stopbmorg » Tue Jan 13, 2004 11:30 am

Yeah, except that $500,000 will buy PLENTY of influence. Does BLM have an incentive to protect public lands, or has that incentive been trumped by their expected and collected fee?

For 2002FY, $500,000 is roughly 5% of what BLM collects in use fees (from the Dept of Interior search engine). 5% going to a desolate and otherwise little used district. That's a pretty bg incentive. But no, to even ASK that question presupposes that the 'rest of us' are bad and evil.

It's hard to participate in the process when the critical meetings and issues are dealt with in non-public, closed door meetings. As evidenced by the FOIA information I received last summer. All 1100 pages worth.

Dude, did it ever occur to you that dragging this tragic accident into your little eplaya harrassment hobby is, like, totally disgusting? I mean, being petty, nasty and rumor-mongering is one thing, but trying to exploit a woman's death in your little vendetta is just...foul.

We know you don't give a fuck, she was just ammunition to you. "Some chick" indeed.

1100 pages of info under a FOIA request? What are you trying to do, rake up enough stuff so you can ride in like a white knight and try and kill off BM? From the sounds of your rants you want to kill the event. It's not gonna happen. You don't have anywhere near enough influence or power to do anything besides wipe your ass, much less take out an event that has reached the size of BM. AGAIN, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. You might as well go into your rejection mindset and get over it.

And that "chick" was Katharine Lampman. If your going to do so much research why not try and know the names of the people involved? Or are you too busy digging up muck to further your agenda that you don't care about anyone unless they can be used to further your cause?

C'mon K. Just leave this little troll to splash about in his septic little pool of shit. Nothing he's said to date warrants any response and certainly no argument by anyone here. If you don't give him anything to chew on maybe he'll just go back to sniffing his fingers that he seems to have so far up his ass.

Post by stopbmorg » Thu Jan 15, 2004 2:59 pm

Actually, the FOIA request was specifically written to be very *very* inclusive of anything remotely related. If anyone here is in the legal profession, it's akin to 'discovery'. It pays off to get all the information in front of you and then cull it down yourself to what you need and can use.

No desire to be a white knight. Just a desire to open some eyes and force more accountability on the BMORG droids. If you participants don't like the photos, if you don't like that thousands of cars drop oil, grease, fuel and other petroleum derivatives, if you don't like the 24x7 spewing of diesel fumes from the water trucks (volatile organic compounds, anyone?), if you don't like seeing wildlife go without its needs met, if you don't like seeing BMORG contractors breaking rules, if you don't like seeing BM participants breaking rules as put forth in the BLM permit, or if you don't like the lack of accountability, then open your eyes.

If you appreciate the lack of accountability, then by all means - hide your heads in the playa dust, cover your ears and chant "Larry is great, there is no other" until you pass out. The choice is yours.

Do you know why BMORG isn't in Federal court right now? Because the owner of Planet X Pottery simply doesn't have the money to fund the court battle, that's why. Neither do I, but if I did, I'd do it myself or give him the money. In fact, the man hasn't even gotten his hearing about the permit he contested several years ago. Why? Bureacracy. And that itself isn't BMORG's fault - they just take advantage of it. Imagine that, your wonderful little world, coopted by the dirty underbelly of the 'outside' world.
Coffee's done, smell it.

look, can you answer me honestly?

you have an axe to grind against the org. Great. What is it? I see your hand in many threads pointing your finger at many issues real or imagined. Even though your issues vary greatly, from the environment to rape, there is one very consistant theme, Larry and The Org, Larry and The Org, Larry and The Org, Larry and The Org. So, please, tell me, what is your specific gripe? Or is it a general gripe? Be honest.

It's really funny how these people complain about the BMORG when in Empire there's a huge gypsum mine that produces millions of cubic yards of waste. All of which you can see from the road! And I am no air pollution expert, but how many problems are caused by airborne gypsum dust? And how much of the water table does that huge corporate mine use? And how many holes have they dug? I just don't get it.

This is not the fight you are looking for. Move along.

Hey Stuart,

Give this guy a break will ya? He's running multiple sock puppets, crossposting, and working on uploading over a thousand pages of documents obtained from the Freedom of Information Act on to his website. Give him some time to respond!

Now my question is this- Is WSPR/LHH/Stopbmorg/allanon2/respecttheplanet the same person?

I find it interesting that Allanon(2) decided to use WSPR's threads to start off on his rants... conincedence? I think NOT!

places to start. Controversy, like car accidents, attracts rubber neckers. Hence the tactical decision to start there.

Allanon, RPT and myself are all 3 different unique human beings. And we don't even know who WRSP is outside of his/her presence on this forum.

This sounds like when some personalities in one schizo aren't aware of others? Like LHH, allanon, Stopbmorg and respecttheplanet talk to each other, but not WSPR?

Post subject: A few questions for Allanon2
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have stated on another thread that your real identity is:

150 evergreen
boulder creek, ca

rex scates

So, I did a quick search on your name and turned up this site:

http://www.baneon.org/members/scates/rex.html

Is this you? Your car? Your visit to Black Rock Desert?

How about this site:

http://www.baneon.org/photos.html

That set of photos from August, 1997 look interesting, especially pic6. Is that you/your car?

If that is you, do you and your associates still like to visit the Black Rock Desert with your vehicles (probably different ones now) and enjoy it as depicted in these photos? If so, do you like to go in August, when the bulk of site preparations for Burning Man and/or the actual event are taking place?

Let me please be clear that this is not an attack on you nor a judgement about the appropriateness of the behavior depicted in the photos. Just a few queries to help clarify for myself and others how it is that you enjoy the Black Rock Desert and how that might be conflicting with its use by others, including the BMORG and the Burning Man event.

Rex! Welcome back. Missed you buddy.

Run over any Spotted Owls with your souped up Neon yet?

Oh that's right, you can't get a good brodie anymore because Burning Man is on your personal racetrack. So you, like every other picked on self important twit in high school, are willing to spend countless hours trying to get some psychotic version of 'revenge' on those that oppose you.

Good luck on the Crusade. Your type is always full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
