Religion fucks up the whole works. Always trying to figure out the obvious and then make it magical to answer questions. Always trying to figure out something that you will never know the answer to?

My belief is: (doesn't have to be yours)

Religion has been defined as: The duty one owes to one creator.

What does correct have to do with it?

**Sigh...** You didn't scare me off - I've been busy. Ok, this typing might take a while to answer all the objections, questions, etc, but I hope it will be worth it to all of you.

http://www.religioustolerance.org/rel_defn.htm

has the best essay on addressing the definition of religion (from my very brief search) so that it can be all-emcompassing. The part I'd like to highlight is their finalized broad definition of religion way at the bottom of the page. (But please, everyone, read the rest of the essay as well):

"Our compromise definition:
"This website's essays use a very broad definition of religion:

"Religion is any specific system of belief about deity, often involving rituals, a code of ethics, a philosophy of life, and a worldview."

"(A worldview is a set of basic, foundational beliefs concerning deity, humanity and the rest of the universe.) Thus we would consider Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Native American Spirituality, Wicca, and other Neopagan traditions to be religions. We also include Agnosticism, Atheism, Humanism, Ethical Culture etc. as religions, because they also contain a "belief about deity." Their belief is that they do not know whether a deity exists, or they have no knowledge of God, or they sincerely believe that God does not exist. "

Therefore, pretty much everyone on earth has a religion by that definition, which is a pretty basic idea that I would subscribe to. Even if you're an atheist who believes that God doesn't exist and that we are a one-lifetime animal/body put here through evolution and chance - that is still a system of belief. So, all of you that say: religion is for suckers? Please think about that again. I'm sure you have some point of view on the idea of a deity, yes? Even if that idea is that you don't know....

Exactly....

It all depends on how one defines it.

As my x-hubby used to say... most people define their religion to suit their lifestyle.

Amen.

I just wish I could take a picture of this wonderful place called Common Ground and make postcards (the kind that have a cheesy "Wish you were here!") and send them out to the world. Way prettier than anything on Earth. That'd be nice. 8)

Are you including Atheists in that bunch?

There's a highway cleanup sign near where I live that says that the local Atheist's group handles that section of freeway.

I would call that "organized".

My belief system does not allow me to accept that definition of religion. But I have used the same logic against people trying to claim their "spirituality" was nothing at all like religion. Luckily my belief system does not have a prohibition against hipocracy, as long as it is acknowledged openly.

from xenu.com:

"The results of applying their crackpot psychotherapy (called "auditing") is to weaken the mind. The mind goes from a rational state to an irrational one as the delusional contents of the subconscious mind are brought to the surface and are assumed to be valid. It also makes a person more susceptible to suggestion since it submerges the critical thinking faculties of the mind into a partial subconscious state. It results in a permanent light hypnotic trance and so from thenceforth that person can be more easily controlled."

The writer sounds like a bit of a crackpot himself if they find this to be convincing. The subconscious isn't "delusional". It may show itself in metaphor and symbolic lanquage.
And what the fuck is a "permanent light hypnotic trance"??!!!

I wonder if they consider themself to be oh so logical and scientific in their attack? More likely this person is some kind of fundamentalist.

"Its not our dogma, so it must be evil!!"

So am I being Delusional to think that the subconscience mind is delusional then that's delusional is it not, then, I rest my case your honor!

If all life was reincarnation, where the fuck are they all coming from?

Eeh?

Now you're all in trouble! Come On just souls inhabiting earthlings coming from where, can't be hell nor can it be heaven. Right!

too many people to account for Reincarnation. Too many people thinking that they are cleopatra or King Arthur. there is only one of them as there is only one of you.

You just get in and you just get out. You move to the next step slowly to to the where the chamber is said to be- Mt Olympus.

See you carpet crawlers next year only because you can't go back to last one. that is impossible, you can only go on to the next one.

Carpet Crawlers we are!

There is lambs wool under my naked feet
The wool is soft and warm
Gives off some kind of heat
A salamander scurries into fame to be destroyed
Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid
The fleas cling to the golden fleece
Hoping they'll find peace
Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid
There's no hiding in my memory
There's no room to avoid

The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor
For my second sight of people, they've more lifeblood than before
They're moving in time to a heavy wooden door
Where the needle's eye is winking, closing on the poor

The carpet crawlers heed their callers
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out

There's only one direction in the faces that I see
Its upward to the ceiling, where the chamber's said to be
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they are free

The carpet crawlers heed their callers
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out

Mild-mannered supermen are held in kryptonite
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright
Through the door a harvest feast is lit by candlelight
Its the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight

The carpet crawlers heed their callers
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out

The carpet crawlers heed their callers
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
...To get out

We got to get in to get out
We got to get in (get out to get in)
Got to, got to...
Got to get in to get out
(Got to get in to get out)
We got to get in to get out
(Got to get in to get out)
We got to get in to get out
We got to get in to get out
Get in to get out
Got to get in (get out) to get out
Got to get in to get out
Get out, get out, get out...

Have a Happy New Year

One of our camp members made hundreds of
postcards to give as gifts a few years ago.
They were a huge success.
Postcards are a GREAT idea.

OK. So here's what I'd like to make up:

A postcard with a glossy satellite photo of Earth with the words "Common Ground" in Bold below. Then above the photo in a nice scroll work the phrase, "Wish you were here!".

Have the address side made to be pre-addressed to "Everyone" and have the address be "From:" (blank) so that they can be re-gifted as needed.

Howzat sound?
