Honestly?

I could give a flying fuck.

If you don't like Burning Man, don't go.

You don't like the rules that Burning Man has- see the point above. (oh- I'm a photographer. I signed the same agreement that is mentioned on that website. Seemed pretty straight forward to me as a way to protect the denizens of BRC from exploitation like that which has occured in the past- "Girls Gone Wild" videos and such. The person on that site has apparently never done profesional work before or they would have seen agreements like that all over the place)

If you don't like me on the playa- too damn bad. Apparently the BLM does- they keep leasing BM the space. Bring up your issues at the public hearing on the Use Permit- this forum seems to get you nowhere.

You think that Burning Man is messing up the Playa? Okay- but why does it keep getting globally recognized for responsible use?

You want the playa back where only you and your family and friends can enjoy its beauty- back before the masses "discovered" it? Go fuck yourself. I pay taxes- as a citizen I have as much right to use it and "ownership" of it as you do. Just like you have as much right to use the Marin Headlands as me.

Guess what else?
I really could care less how much money Larry Harvey is or isn't making on Burning Man. He gives me the ability to go once a year to the most amazing playground I've ever been in- more power to him.

Sorry if it's not your cup of tea.
It is mine.

(oh- if you think I sound strident and self-centered/ self-serving in this post: you now know how you sound to me)

Sorry about the shock- as I stated to Ric in a response to a private message he sent me, he asked for our opinions on the page, and I gave my blunt response.
I'm tired of the endless repetition of the same old anti-Burning Man arguments, and, while I fully defend the rights of those people to have and state them, I also have the right to respond. I tried to very clearly note that the opinions are mine, and not use "we" or "us".

I'm done with Ric and the other anti-BM puppets.

I think it would be polite to stick to a single thread for a single topic.

Taxonomically, some people are lumpers, placing many variants in a single class, and some people are splitters, creating a new class for every variety. Now sometimes its a good idea to split off a new thread -- to avoid excessive thread drift, for instance. But this truly seems like a minor variation of the How would Treasure Island Work thread. So how about we drop this thread and lump the replies in How would Treasure Island Work ?

shit yeah!

I'm gonna make t-shirts that say this and hand them out at '04.

iffin ya don't mind

how come you don't hear people bitching about this when they go to concerts or movies? 'So and so makes so much money off of this' It sure did not kill my enjoyment of LOTR to know that Miramax needed to rent military cargo planes to carry the bails of cash they were making at the box office. Sheesh.

>>how come you don't hear people bitching about this when they go to concerts or movies?

because concerts and movies don't operate under the pretense of promoting (or god forbid, creating) community.

i know it's a big taboo around here, but I don't find commerce, certainly to the extent that it is exhibited at burning man, and community to be mutually exclusive. I don't follow your logic.

Black Rock Ric,

Your link is busted as posted. It has a extra [/url] on the end. You may want to edit the post.

This link works - http://www.jwz.org/gruntle/burningman.html

I am posting this for vermin eradication.

I may post here again but my initial feeling is BM is not Made Gras or Spring Break. You do not buy a ticket to those. The TV show COPS covers what happens on public streets.

My initial reaction is to impose the shovel on them. Very easy to do. You take a shovel, insert it into their assholes...

OK, my probation officer says I can not go there, email me for details.
