The original models are not likely to be able to grab control of those images and use them for their own purposes.

Oh crap, how do I straddle the line of liking those images, but being concerned about the politics of their creation?

At least some of the models were probably paid, like the exotic erotic Hawaii girls. Few models even today own the rights to their images those go to the Photographers who sell them to the publishers.

I wonder how "staged" those photos are.
I guess you're right about ownership of by the photographer.
It's just the whole history of eroticization of marginal peoples, including the natives in colonial situations.

But there is something much sweeter than a lot of modern porn. Not simply that more is implied and less shown, but that there's a certain crassness in the modern pics I've seen.

I'm guessing that the models were prostitutes.

It's hard to tell directly about the status of the women shown. They may well be violating local conventions by posing topless, but that does not directly lead to prostitution. Given our limited knowledge it depends on the story that one wants to construct. Your guess may be correct, of course, since prostitutes are generally already on display (and more) for cash.

One alternate story is that at least some of them were willing to be topless for cash, but not do anything more. We have similar situations in contemporary society, even extending to posing topless for free.

No time for nappies yet - I'm still catching up on all the stuff I didn't do last summer while getting ready for the trip home...

...well, that, and working on a couple of projects for next year's trip.

The back is back to 100%, but no more bending 3/4" rebar without heating it up first!
