How did I ever miss this thread. Don't worry, your secret's safe here!

I'll keep telling eplayans that your posts are a great substitute for self mutilation with razor blades.

Wow. Those were both beautiful stories, Simon. And a perfectly timed gift, just when the "Merry Commercialism" of defaultia was really starting to get to me. Thanks for sharing, makes it easier to keep the faith :)

Wishing a happy holiday season to you and yours

For the past 24 hours, I have experienced a series of encounters that remind me that Santa is watching.

As I stood outside Tiffany's last night, huddled in my scarf and hat against the cold wind, I marveled at the contrast between my mood and those around me. I was exhausted after working 70+ hours a week for the past month or so and just wanted to get home. People moved in and around me, happily truly window shopping....looking at the intricate window displays at Bergdorf's and other silly fancy stores. My grinch mood began to fade as I felt lifted by the ability of others to drop their materialism and be pleased with simple pleasures.

I scanned the traffic looking for an available cab, when a man stopped me. He was checking to see if I was in fact waiting for a cab, in which case he wanted to make sure he didn't take mine. Five minutes later I hailed a cab who pulled to the curb and someone else opened the door and began to step in. That person then thought better of it, looked back at me guiltily and offered me the cab.

I stopped at the corner market outside my apartment and said hello to the owner. As I was leaving, he ran back out and asked me to come back the following evening. He would bring back items from the Sai Baba temple tomorrow and give me a blessing. Please would I come back tomorrow night so that he could do that?

This morning on the way into the office a Santa stood on the corner soliciting funds for the homeless. He was shaking his bell and doing some sort of funky chicken dance. I stopped and danced with him.

Thanks Santa and the elves!!!

If you're wondering who Sai Baba is:

i really liked that editorial.

The Untied Way is a great way of explaining it.

and it's true, i once was asked by a man for money and in typical holier than thou fashion, asked him what he was going to do with it.

i usually get the standard "i need some food" or "my children need food" or "i have to buy medicine" all of which might be true, but, i'm sorry to say, most likely not.

but this guy just stared right thru me and proudly proclaimed "Im a crack-head, motherfucker, what you think i'm gonna do with it?"

he was telling the truth, but more importantly, how dare i ask him what my unsolicited gift was to be used for, that was his decision, and his alone, and if buying some ready rock was going to make his day, so be it.

i gave him a ten or something larger than he expected, and he smiled and said "The truth always works best, for getting what you need"

how very astute, from the mouths of Crack-heads, comes some weird form of knowledge, that we might never fathom.

Humble Pie, although very hard to eat, will do the body good every now and again, like fiber in the cereal bowl of your soul.

And although i despise the whole notion of Fox feeding into this fantasy of Horatio Alger meets Little orphan Annie and gives her 100,000$ for her doggie via the "secret millionaire" bullshit reality tv show, it is good that these people really do get the money and really are helped, even if it's at the expense of being someones guilt off-set points or Television-land's latest brain freeze du jour.

the millionaires do get a week of poverty, a taste so to speak, and it's pretty difficult for it NOT to change you in some ways.

I would love to see good old fashioned, ring and run philanthropy make a comeback...Doing it just to do it, and make someone, and in return, yourself, a little happier, a little wiser, a little more loved, and little more loving.

god, i sound like a fucking hippy, you see what you freaks have done to me?

then I feel bad, but I will not be abused, in jest or in sincerity.
I don't understand why you would seek to be misunderstood, but I really can't entertain all that. I hope you have a happy year filled with only good things. Peace and love

Wow.

It's the parts that are difficult to understand, or that we may not remember for a while, that's why we go back.

Plus, naked chicks.
