I-80 Closures in California

Post by phil » Sun Apr 05, 2009 1:57 pm

http://www.getacross80.com/
has information on construction on I-80 on the California side. There are times when all eastbound or westbound lanes will be closed. Click on the map on the front page or click on 'Travel Info' for more information. You may sign up for email updates so that you can check details from your cell phone when you have cell access (Reno on your way back, for example).

For California road conditions call 1 800 427 ROAD (1 800 427 7623) from California, calling from out of state 916 445 ROAD ( 916 445 7623)

For Nevada road conditions call 877 687 6237

I like the scenic route up Feather River Canyon from Oroville to Quincy, then over Beckworth to 395, then south to Reno. Often in winter when higher Donner Pass is closed, I can get through lower Beckworth Pass. It's about the same driving time from where I live.

To check online, these are the sites I use.

CA - http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

NV - http://safetravelusa.com/nv/
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Not in summer so much, unless you get a weird wreck in one of the construction areas.

I-80 has been closed this past week for blowing snow. If that happens in summer, we have bigger problems.

It may be kind of fun though. Snowball fights at BRC!!!

Maybe I only think that's fun cause I'm from New Hampshire, I'm sure there's be plenty of cold miserable people...

See our alerts page at

Absolutely! Word has it that the "Ranch" in Battle Mountain will be closed the week before Burning Man and not reopen until Sept 11th. This is tragic.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

I used to go camping on the Feather River. The drive is absolutely beautiful!
