Burning man doesn't acutally have "rules" so much as "guidelines".
I've seen plenty of dogs on the playa, quad ATVs without decorations, and "camps" that were more like professionally-produced concerts. Uh-huh, yeah dude, you're just here on your own? You and your tour bus and roadies?
Burning Man is less an experimenal community and more of an experiment in what you can get away with. You're anonymous, and all is forgiven in a week.

I saw a Kangaroo Rat in 2008
A Raven in 2009...and more miraculously, my friend found newborn mice while unpacking her belongings on Monday, and managed to keep one alive for the entire trip! A Newborn, closed-eyed mousee, surviving in all that dust!
This big, weird bug also came and died at the temple when I was there Sunday morning for the sunrise.
