Thanks for the cocktail, pinemom.
How's everything there? Sounds like you got a good sleep. I was thinking of going to see 2012 but was wondering about adding a bunch of doom and gloom to my life. Usually I can separate fiction from reality though so maybe it would be a good night out. Just need a date to go with now.

good morning ... !
i love pretty drinks ... thanks pinemom ...
that book does look interesting, fishy ... i wonder how many non-burningman books take place around the playa ... ? have you seen any others?
my favorite book at the moment is a little thing by Claes Oldenburg called Notes in Hand ... it's reproductions of some of his notebook pages with annotations at the end. i LOVE claes oldenburg, and the wacky way he sees common objects. i found it at my favorite used bookstore, Logo's, in santa cruz, which makes it even more special...

Crypto, I'm reading an old, old book that I had on my shelf: Hawaii by James Michener. A couple of friends are moving there and I thought a little refresher would be nice. I love Michener's historical accuracy and his story-telling is spectacular too.
I have a funny story about Michener's cousin: Roland Michener, the Governor General of Canada from 1967 to 1974. When I was 11 and in grade six, I was a school patroller which meant I stood at the corner and helped little ones to cross the street safely - before and after school and before and after lunch. All school patrollers in Canada were awarded a trip to Ottawa for their service. And when in Ottawa, we had tea with the Governor General.
I was chosen among the group to greet the Governor General when he came out of Rideau Hall into the garden. There were six of us chosen and we had to practice how to curtsy appropriately. Being the clutz that I was at that age, I fumbled my curtsy in front of Roland Michener and one knee went all the way to the ground instead of the graceful move that it is supposed to be. Well, he steadied me by grabbing my elbow before I completely tumbled and he graciously said, "My dear, you only need to go all the way to the ground for the queen!".

Maybe what would help is a bit of burner tomfoolery?
We're organizing a Santarchy here for December 19th. Basically it's a pub crawl but we all dress up in crazy Santa costumes. The good part is we also give out candy to the children at the outdoor skating rink in the park before we go on the pub crawl. Oh and I take some coal from my steam engine and give it out to misbehavin' adults in the bar.

Truer words never spoken. The time it takes to really enjoy a good ice cream soda is like an oasis in this crazy world.lonestoner916 wrote:You won't be sorry, a good ice cream soda can be almost as intoxicating as whiskey! I don't care what's going on your life, you CAN NOT be angry while drinking one!

I feel a little sorry for you, Sputnik. I saw a clip of it earlier today (must have been in this forum) and it just seemed dated. Of course the aspect ration did not help. Maybe it's better as a whole.
But I loved that movie in the eighties. It was a great double bill in a repertory movie house with Terminator.
I'm getting old.

Feeling old myself, crypto. I was raising babies in the 80s so I didn't see any movies and have no pop culture references for that entire decade. Well, I suppose I should modify that a little. Robert's first LP was Lawrence Gowan's album Strange Animal and Jason's first LP was Michael Jackson's Thriller. That's it, that's all I got from the 80s. Raising babies was all-consuming for me so I missed out on Terminator and Mad Max although Wikipedia helps to fill in the holes.theCryptofishist wrote:I feel a little sorry for you, Sputnik. Hey e-playa buddies...haven't heard from me (or my 4 legged friend) for a bit.
I'm feeling a bit down, disappointed at yet another guy who got scared away when I admitted (when asked) that yes, I want children, and yes I have very little time left (am 37-1/2).
One of my friends said I should lie and say no and then tell them I'm on the pill even though I'm not. Not my style...

Virtual hugs, Artemis. Sorry to hear you're having these difficulties. Yes, where are all the good family men anyway?Artemis wrote:Hey e-playa buddies...haven't heard from me (or my 4 legged friend) for a bit.
