Every year since 2001... I'm an honorary Flounder (you'll know once you get there). Even if you have signed up for the Hushville site, you will need to register your "camp" sometime in June or July. Pre-registration allows you to camp in Hushville, but no guarantees. We fill up around Wednesday, but sometimes people move to other areas and more people can come in. You cannot camp in Hushville without the registration, we're up all night Sunday/Mon midnight and there's a special secret handshake. And a clipboard.
Hushville is tightly packed compared to other villages. We had a hexayurt so close behind us last year that their water containers edged under our shade structure, and gal next to us had our hitch on the trailblazer in her tent entrance area (we moved it forward for her). One year we woke up with a tent between our guy wires! So be prepared to get cozy.
We have a Town Round in the middle, and interior paths marked by whiskers. When you arrive, you will be greeted and helped to find the perfect spot. Some people arrive early and interactive camps are placed on the village map before we hit the playa.
There's a often welcome party on Monday, a Librarian social on Wednesday, and a cocktail party Friday evening. But things change... we used to have Naked Vegan Pancakes, but the wonderful folks with all the infrastructure for that have not attended for a couple years... I really, really miss them. And the pancakes too!

Fantastic info AntiM! I have talked to Marty a few times and he has guided me through the process of getting organized etc. Btw, I love the pic of you in the white dress in the white bedroom. Was that taken at BM? Saw it on some web page here. Very cool! If you want a group photo, I can definitely do that and email it to everyone free of charge after the event. Can also do individual photos for free of people camping in Hushville if they so desire.

True Barbarians never shower! They just rub mossy stones over they're body. Surely you should know that, Shirley!Ugly Dougly wrote:Now I gotta take a shower.winebuff wrote:Very excited. Be gentle

There's a group photo done yearly by Brillig, he climbs up a ladder, takes several shots and strings them into panoramas. I know there's link somewhere! There's a lot of Hushers, too many for a standard group shot. But more photos are always good! I never seem to get enough of me and Mylarry together.
My white photo was indeed taken in an art installation at BM. The white gown was a serendipitous lucky coincidence! That was my cancer year, you can't tell, but I'm all hopped up on pain killers.

It is not that they want it quiet. They dont want all the people with their blaring boomboxes, screeching generators, yelling, screaming, stay up until 5am high on loud music kind of people. They still like to have a great time but dont have to have the noise decibal level beyond what most people can bear. Is that right Marty and Antim?

Can you hear me now?
The main point of Hushville is you know you won't get a smelly, noisy generator next to your head in a neighboring camp, or a sound system on top of your cozy little shade structure. Across the street? Passing by? Sure. Although we do diplomatically and individually try to work out noise issues... would you mind turning the speakers away? repositioning that generator? Not stopping the art car with the loud sound system on purpose just because you're in front of Hushville and you think we should all wake up?
And then there were the Mallards drumming ....

Hushville is far from silent, I use earplugs about half the time I'm trying to sleep. Ironically, I began sleeping better at Burning man after going out with MyLarry when he was hauling the reefer trucks. Nice noisy little genny right behind the bunk, on and off, keeping the load cold. There are similarities between riding in the truck OTR and camping at Burning Man. I got more showers on the road though, LOL.
