I don't think he burnt burners with Tribe.net. His scam was through facebook.

Considering that Tribe.net is free... unless you NPR style support it, I don't see how you could claim it is a scam.

(I've been on tribe since 2004)

Perhaps you know me by my former username, moistpup. I am not new to this thread, eplaya, or tribe.net.

Anyway, considering that Tribe.net isn't making money for anybody, and we're getting a lot of usage out of something that requires employees to maintain it... Tribe.net's original purpose was to become a new craigslist organized around affinity groups. Turns out there isn't really any money there, at least not the way Tribe implemented things.

The difference between tribe and facebook is that tribe's user profiles don't contain much information that marketers would find worthy of paying for whereas facebook does. Facebook is also far more agressive about using your data than Tribe could ever dream of being.

The point is, Tribe.net has to make money somehow to pay for the employees, servers, and bandwidth that keeps the site up. That isn't a scam, that's reality.

P.S. I'm a software engineer and have worked for a very large, yet struggling, dot com in the past.

Haven't seen you around here in awhile.

As I was saying earlier, I have posted in this thread areas where Tribe has been ripping people off.
The guy that was doing maintenance there was getting paid huge amounts of money to keep the servers maintained and was doing nothing but playing pimp in Las Vegas with all kinds of girls and posting the pics of himself doing so on Tribe as the service was going downhill.

There were many business models proposed to Pincus many many times to improve revenue on Tribe by Tribe users but he chose not to implement them.
MANY MANY MANY people wanted to help including myself in fantastic ways, but it seemed he did almost everything he could to sabotage it.

PINCUS IS THIS TYPE OF PERSONALITY.

It is the way he is. Check him out. I dont care what anyone says, he's pretty pathetic:

I am not the only one that knows this about Pincus. So does Michael Arrington. Pincus is a shady dude.

Oh yeah, no doubt. Pincus is indeed shady. I think he is the ultimate example of the 90's dot com boom CEO. He starts something without ever having the intention of still being around when it implodes.

Pincus seems to be excellent at the start up phase, but not much good at maintaining momentum.

That was eye opening. I stand corrected. You and Rhino were right. Pinkus is scum. The guy, by his own admission, was distributing malware in order to raise money. What a lowlife. I liked this comment:

The saga continues ...

Just a moment ago, all of the profiles on Tribe vanished, to be replaced by error forms. This lasted for a few minutes. Not that I'm complaining. This is actually starting to become funny, sort of, in a way.

What's even better is that the problem is persisting in Internet Explorer. Better from a comedic point of view, that is. For those who have a serious investment in Tribe, obviously you have my sympathy, but don't you ever find youself wondering when things are going to get better?
