Right before Burning Man last year, I decided to bust out a glow stick (blue to be specific). I was swishing it back and forth across our bed as 16lb. damn cat bit the glow stick. As he does this I can see the liquid shoot down his throat and then all over his face. I freaked  ! I know it says non toxic on the packaging but things that are non toxic to people aren't neccessarily for animals. Of course it's about 10pm. So I finally got a hold of someone at our local emergency vet. I'm in a panic that I've killed my damn cat from something as stupid as this. (By this time kitty is running around the house like a maniac foaming horribly from the mouth, oh and his whole face is glowing a magical blue, along with the carpet and comforter!) I told the lady what we were up to and she started laughing hysterically  as I'm telling her this, damn cat has managed to lodge his porky body behind the couch. Looking behind the couch all I could see was a bright blue nose and whiskers and the sound of growling kitty discontent. Needless to say, glow stick juice just tastes really bad to damn cats and that is why they foam at the mouth, so for future reference, glow stick juice will not kill your animals.

The Cat and the Pain-Killer

Post by gyre » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:42 pm

Tom had become indifferent to persecution, by this time. This phase filled the old lady’s heart with consternation. This indifference must be broken up at any cost. Now she heard of Pain-Killer for the first time. She ordered a lot at once. She tasted it and was filled with gratitude. It was simply fire in a liquid form. She dropped the water treatment and everything else, and pinned her faith to Pain-Killer. She gave Tom a tea-spoonful and watched with the deepest anxiety for the result. Her troubles were instantly at rest, her soul at peace again; for the “indifferenceâ€

Along with LostinReno:
About two months ago little Gizmo, mentioned earlier, ate some German chocolate cake.
Chocolate can be deadly to cats and dogs so I grabed him from the cake, and, it was a Friday night.
My better half called the emergency vet hospital in Carson City and they said cats just "nibble."
So chances are he did'nt eat much, *as I watch Alley come from the computer cabinet* if any.
We were to monitor and watch his behavior for the next 24 hours and if
we see any changes to bring him in STAT.
He did'nt change and he's just as hyper as ever :D

How much is too much?
The toxic dose of Theobromine (and caffeine) for pets is 100-200mg/kg. (1 kiliogram = 2.2 pounds). However, various reports by the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) have noted problems at doses much lower than this - i.e. 20mg/kg.

Translated to a "typical" scenario, and using the 20mg/kg as a measure of "problems can be seen at this level of ingestion", a 50 pound dog would have to consume 9 ounces (+/-) of milk chocolate to consume the 20mg/kg amount of Theobromine. Some dogs won't see problems at this rate. Some may.

This is a much more conservative toxic level calculation than the "standard" of 100-200mg/kg, but better safe than sorry. A dog sneaking a couple M&M's shouldn't have a problem, but it isn't a good habit to get into!
In other words, if you want the dog next door to be more quiet, then you need to get a lot of chocolate.

Had little Gizmo for one year today.
Did more remenencing today while at work:
I found him almost four months after Owl died of thymoma.
I could hold him in the palm of my hand then.
Owl would crank/pump her left front paw as she drank water,
Gizmo scratches the floor with both front paws while he drinks. Hope he does'nt out grow that habit.

He always walks in front of me until I pick him up and carry him around the house.
He'll sit and stare at the lazer light we have hanging on a key hook, at about five feet off the ground and out of the blue jumps up at it.
He attacks dust floating in the morning sun shinning through the windows.
I think he'll turn out to be a good cat as he gets older.

Damn Cat, He is not into taking any shit off a dog.. Dog comes into the yard, walks up to cats patio cage and barks in cats face. Cat makes a low gutteral sound and smacks the dog.. Dog screams in pain.h. Cat smacks him for screaming.. The cage is open to the inside of the house.. Cat comes in the house, looks at me and said something like (fucking dogs).. Then turned and went out into the cage again.. Looked in the direction the went, stuck his paw out of the gage and hissed..

That cartoon is awesome. My cat licks does everything in that except the pulling of the ear and a baseball bat. Instead he licks my face and if I'm unresponsive he licks my eyelids.

Damn Cats too smart.
