How will the vehicle be mustated?

Post by Ladymerv » Thu Jun 17, 2004 11:54 am

The bus will become Nellie the American Eagle- spread eagled and flying :)
The inside of the bus will house an educational area where illustrations of how our system is organized, and how your vote counts- the images being as easy( 5th grade level) to understand.
We are attempting to help people learn about how our country works, they can make up their own minds if it does or doesn't ...and hopefully will get the picture that to change anything we need to at least VOTE...in national elections as well as locally.

As we travel around the country and BRC, we'll be asking participants to join in creating a written document on what are their views at this point in History. We'll have them type their comments on a typewriter hooked up to the World Wide Web, (to this website) creating a permanent record and we'll post these comments to our website. We're particularly interested in:
1. Which issues are important to you as an American?
2. Why is it important to participate or not in a democracy?
3. What do our elected officials need to do to make this country a better place for all Americans?
4. If you ever ran for elected office, what would you stand for?

we are inviting everyone to share their views whether they vote or not. People are welcome to post their names or stay annon.

We are doing this project to learn- what we have learned so far- ask 5 people how this democracy works and you will get 5 different answers, immigrants understand the importance of voting and are chomping at the bit to get that chance, doing this project and being non-partisan invites open dicussion of politics for all sides...something that is hard to find without people breaking into shouting matches.

We are going the positive route in asking for participation, and attempt to teach ourselves as well as others.

2. The question answers itself... duh!
3. A wee bit more honesty and integrity... ok a WHOLE LOT MORE of both
4. for about 5 minutes, then I would look for a seat.

Changing the question so it not a leading

Post by Ladymerv » Fri Jun 18, 2004 2:21 pm

Joel, quite right, we will change the question format so we can hear from people who are choosing not to vote and why they choose not to, as well as why people who do vote and their reasons why they do.
Thanks for pointing this out. javascript:emoticon('')

Well then count me confused along with you, stuart. Or rather, aware of the inconsistancy, here in and in various other parts of BM.

Radical self expression is/was the rule, unless your true self is political. Or your art involves cameras. Or "adult activities." Or... If the first you'll have problems from local, vocal, parts of the community who don't want their, "escape," ruined. Reminds me of folk who don't want to have their day ruined by seeing naked folk outside of BRC. Who complain when Janet Jackson flashes a bit of tit on the Superbowl.

One's right to live a life unoffended does not exist either inside, or outside BRC, as far as I can see. In fact, I'd strongly encourage folk who have a political expression inside of themselves to express it at BRC at a volume directly porportional to the resistance they enounter, if also with respect and consideration in their delivery.

Ron, off to check out the "voting bus" site more and consider volunteering to help...

Well spoken, Ron. It's very much to Ladymerv's credit that she is consistently trying to take the high road here in the face of the usual low-brow attacks from the usual suspects. I suspect badger and bob would respond very differently if the bus was registering people to join the "Badger and Bob Cult of Personality."

If no one could take any projects to the playa that these clowns didn't like, can you imagine the crap we'd have to hear and see? That's a lot of Skynard and dick sculptures, folks. How about this: if you don't want to deal with the Voter Registration Bus, then don't! Wow...what an idea. This all has the same smack of censorship that is creeping ever deeper into the American cultural fabric. Loud idiots shouting and bullying down anything they don't like. It's the Coors Light, P.C.T. (Penis Compensation Truck) mindset, and we don't need it on the playa. Hell, most are going to the playa to get away from it. I've tried to stay off the E-Playa for the last two years because there are about 15 people who consistently, with the tenaciousness and temperament of an incontinent wolverine, crap all over anyone who tries to have a discussion on any subject other than how great those 15 "E-Playa Icons" are. I wonder how many cool and wonderful people, with great creativity to add to the playa mix, have been scared off from ever coming because the E-Playa vibe makes it seem like the whole event is poplulated by aggressive, self-aggrandizing morons. Ron, Cowboyangel.....you guys are fighting the good fight. Good luck with it. I'll pop a tallboy Guiness with you in about month.
