I'm still wondering if I should bring a coffee press (but they are all glass and that just seems too fragile for the playa) or a perculator since I will have a battery.

Thanks for coffee yg

I wouldn't bring my coffee press, it'd break for sure and then I'd spend an afternoon cleaning glass off the playa. Try that cowboy coffee, it'll do ya!

Good morning all!
It's going to be alright.

Here's what wikipedia has to say
The coffee should not be ground too coarsely, as large particles float and are unpleasant to drink. If the coffee is ground to a very fine powder the drink becomes Turkish coffee; very fine grounds in suspension make the drink thick.

Water is heated to near-boiling temperature, ground coffee is added, and the mixture is stirred. Alternatively the ground coffee can be added to cold water, brought fairly slowly to the boil, and removed from the heat the instant it starts to boil—boiling for any length of time, or bringing to the boil extremely slowly, gives the coffee an unpleasant "cooked" taste. The ratio of coffee to water determines how strong the coffee will be.

After removing from the heat the grounds are allowed to settle for a minute or so; adding a little cold water can help settle them. Some recipes add crushed eggshells or a raw egg (which is not consumed) to help separate the grounds from the coffee. The coffee is poured carefully leaving most of the grounds behind.

Sugar may be added while heating, or afterwards. Milk or cream may be added. There will be coffee grounds at the bottom, so the cup should not be drained to the end.
It's going to be alright.

So, in a nutshell, it's regular coffee made by just dropping the grounds in the water. Variations abound.
It's going to be alright.

haha, yeah, FT, what Sput says.

if left for a few minutes, the grounds settle just fine. then pour (decant) and, it's yummy..........
I've seen some pretty good presses, made with lexan..........I had one for years.

and, it's fun, in the morning, to wander around, and see who offers you coffee, or, make a pot and offer it to folks going by.......those early morning, eyes half open conversations can be wonderful.

speaking of evil plans:

one time, I had teenage neighbors, who were a super PIA.....but, really nice and friendly.........so, after a particularly loud party night, they went camping the next day........
I took my backhoe over there, and, hung their Datsun 510 beater car, from an oak tree, by it's bumper...........hahaa, you should have heard them when they got home........we all laughed, once they got over the shock!!!
