What I wish I'd said

Post by swampdog » Mon Aug 16, 2010 2:18 pm

This thread seems required. The fancy french word is "L'esprit d'escalier", or the spirit of the stairway. What you think of to say as you're walking away up the stairs.

So this here thread proposes to be a place for you to write what you wish you'd said but didn't think of in time.

After reading VCG's earlier post, I thought of a comeback she could have used.

"No, my dear Jorge. It would no longer be illegal. It would no longer be genetically suspect. But it would still be weird. Very, very, weird."

I don't know if that would have worked. I always find that with non-relatives at least when you find someoen hitting on you creepy (like say someone you have known for 16 years), that it helps to say things like "You know I alwasy though of you as a sister."

Noone wants to sleep with someone that closely related.

I freaking hope so.

Thanks SwampDog. You rock. I wish I could have thought of ANYTHING witty to say. So strange...weird...not cool.

If I can't think of a response I just blame it on a senior moment.

Oh course she could have been very cruel and told him "Sure meet me in the coat closet and be ready." And then sent his father or mother into the coat closet to retrieve something.

And then there's wit of the elevator.
Fucking bicyclist on BART elevator at 5:30 pm pretending she had every right to be in my elevator. If she has a special fucking license to bring her non-folding bike onto BART during the rush-hour, she should expect that people will be disbelieving. But of course I'm too busy choking on my anger to think of anything cleaver.

Literal answer first: Bay Area Rapid Transit. The 'ART' part is also used in many other areas - MART in Monterey (I think), etc.. For some reason they decided to go with something else in Fresno.

Fishy: Is that a bike for handicapped people? Wow, where'd you get it! I wonder if there's something that would work for me?

And: Don't you just hate it when people give you shit for using the handicapped facilities just because you don't look handicapped*? It happens to me all the time. How do you deal with it?

*If you don't like the H word and would rather I use something different please let me know. I think it's neutral but there was the whole 'Differently abled' thing awhile ago. More accurate, but kind of a mouthful. Or a handful, if you're typing.

No, she was the one with no visible handicap.

Oh crap. They changed the rules on me.

yeah, that's what I meant - implying that she must have something subtle and wasn't just busting in on a convenience set up people like you who need it. (thus theoretically shaming her into confessing that she's not handicapped and shouldn't be there)
